Cutting Diet Question

When you guys are dieting for a show, do you go thourgh the whole process of calculating your caloric expenditure then, subtracting 500 Kcal/day from that, then counting your calories, carb intake..ect on a daily basis, or do you just sorta go by feel.
Reason im asking is that my fat powerlifting ass needs to go on a diet and I remember when I was bodybuilding I would do all that and saw very good results. However, it was a major pain in the ass counting the macronutrient content of every single thing I ate and keeping a log of it and I really dont feel like doing it again, but if thats what you pro do than I guess Id have to follow. If your gonna do something, might as well do it right, right?

Well I'm not a pro and never will be, but you called yourself 'fat', so I'm assuming that you're heavily endo. For guys like us, we really need to be extra careful. In my experience, I must really have the ball rolling big time on my strict diet/cardio/supplementation before even sseeing the first hint of fat loss. There's no way that I could ballpark it and be successful. Everything must be PERFECT for me to lose, and even then the fat loss is incredibly slow. Cutting down is often a very long adn tedious process for guys like us, but it's what needs to be done. I'll never get out of shape again, and if you know what's good for you I wouldn't recommend that you do either. You could be spending that time still gaining in the gym. It's also very easy to go over your daily caloric intake when just guestimating.
 
Thanks, I am pretty endomorphic and even when I was bodybuilding I couldnt get into contest shape without taking extreme measures. I guess im gonna start doing the old counting calories thing and hopefully itll work out.
Its a good point you mentioned about not getting too out of shape since the time spent losing fat could be used gaining muscle. Ive always bulked up alot over the winters and managed to make very good muscle and strength gains but my bf% always goes above 20% which is a bitch to get rid of.
I think im gonna take that advice and concentrate on making lean gains from now on.
