I've been doing reading into mitochondrial function lately and became interested in how supplementing ribose may help workouts. If anyone has taken ribose, could you tell me what you thought of it? Thanks.
D-Ribose is supposed to increase de-neuvo synthesis of ATP. I have used D-Ribose in the past and really couldn't tell any appreciable difference in or out of the gym.
What I have found to be effective is Citruline Maleate. Malic acid is a factor in the Krebs cycle and Citruline increases Nitric Oxide levels via an increase in Arginine. Calcium is also a supplement that can be used to help accelerate the Krebs cycle. If I were looking for a Calcium supplement to increase mitochondrial function, I would use Calcium Orotate.
You may also want to look at Peak ATP - a supplement that is supposed to increase your intracellular ATP levels...
