This is sad to hear about. I had/have the Raising the Bar DVD's and I've always liked Dave especially with he and Matt Meinrod (RIP) had their show.
I wonder how "high" was high as far as BP. Also, I'm surprised Dave wasn't keeping an eye on GFR and/or Cystatin C or maybe he was and ignored the drop over time.
Justin H and Dante have preached over the years about the dangers of high BP. I do find that even my friends who have never picked up a weight are resistant to call the Dr to get meds when their BP is high. I always recommend going on meds but for what ever reason people are resistant about it.
I think it’s time I let my clients, friends and fitness family know what’s going on with me.
Early in January, I was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure and told my life depended on me getting to the ER as soon as possible.
At the hospital I was told I needed to start daily dialysis starting immediately. I will be on dialysis until such time as I can get a kidney donor as I’m going to need a kidney transplant.
This is obviously a very sudden and complete life changing event for me but I’m going to try my best to not have this interfere with taking care of my clients and my responsibilities to them.
Thanks for all the support I’ve gotten so far from those who know my situation. I plan on beating this, of course.
My doctors told me the cause of this is uncontrolled high blood pressure over decades of time. My BP has always run very high even on meds. It’s genetic on my mom’s side. Doctors struggled to keep it normalized and over the years, the damage was gradually done. I cannot emphasize enough to get frequent blood work and monitor your numbers and do whatever you need to do to keep your BP within a good range. Trust me, no one wants to go through this.
