This is sad to hear about. I had/have the Raising the Bar DVD's and I've always liked Dave especially with he and Matt Meinrod (RIP) had their show.

I wonder how "high" was high as far as BP. Also, I'm surprised Dave wasn't keeping an eye on GFR and/or Cystatin C or maybe he was and ignored the drop over time.

Justin H and Dante have preached over the years about the dangers of high BP. I do find that even my friends who have never picked up a weight are resistant to call the Dr to get meds when their BP is high. I always recommend going on meds but for what ever reason people are resistant about it.

I think it’s time I let my clients, friends and fitness family know what’s going on with me.
Early in January, I was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure and told my life depended on me getting to the ER as soon as possible.
At the hospital I was told I needed to start daily dialysis starting immediately. I will be on dialysis until such time as I can get a kidney donor as I’m going to need a kidney transplant.
This is obviously a very sudden and complete life changing event for me but I’m going to try my best to not have this interfere with taking care of my clients and my responsibilities to them.
Thanks for all the support I’ve gotten so far from those who know my situation. I plan on beating this, of course.
My doctors told me the cause of this is uncontrolled high blood pressure over decades of time. My BP has always run very high even on meds. It’s genetic on my mom’s side. Doctors struggled to keep it normalized and over the years, the damage was gradually done. I cannot emphasize enough to get frequent blood work and monitor your numbers and do whatever you need to do to keep your BP within a good range. Trust me, no one wants to go through this.

🙏

This is how these things happen.

A fellow was stuck on his roof top during a flood. He was praying to God for help.

Soon a man in a rowboat came by and the fellow shouted to the man on the roof, “Jump in, I can save you.”
The stranded fellow shouted back, “No, it’s OK, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me.”
So the rowboat went on.
Then a motorboat came by. “The fellow in the motorboat shouted, “Jump in, I can save you.”
To this the stranded man said, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.”
So the motorboat went on.
Then a helicopter came by and the pilot shouted down, “Grab this rope and I will lift you to safety.”
To this the stranded man again replied, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.”
So the helicopter reluctantly flew away.
Soon the water rose above the rooftop and the man drowned. He went to Heaven. He finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, at which point he exclaimed, “I had faith in you but you didn’t save me, you let me drown. I don’t understand why!”
To this God replied, “I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?”

I hope God helps him through this with a timely and problem free kidney transplant. In the meantime, I hope he doesn't get too depressed or discouraged. Some sadness and discouragement is normal, but I hope that's as far as it goes. Get well, Dave.

You can’t be a bodybuilder if you take bp meds

If you want to be in this sport/lifestyle, there are risks involved

Apologies for sorta changing the subject and hi jacking the thread but did we ever get an official cause of death for Matt? Was really sad to hear about him. I actually went to FSU with Matt and used to lift next to him at Golds all the time in Tally. After he tore his knee up playing ball he started personal training and trained a bunch of my friends. Total gentle giant. RIP.

I never heard after it happened but the below was on the FSU Football page:

Google search came up with post on Rx Muscle Instagram said this :
cause of death is unknown at the moment He reportedly stopped breathing and paramedics worked on him for 45 min without success ..

If you watch his videos on youtube, he describes a period of time where his father was going through some serious health issues

Matt said that his blood pressure was astronomically high.. hold on i'll find it

We were discussing Matt Meinrod not Matt Porter.

And the craziest thing is it’s such an easy thing to manage too if you know what you’re doing

Man i never got the whole "you cant use bp meds if your a bodybuilder" my blood pressure was the one thing i always was lookin at, after reading a post from Dante in my early years i was like "i need to be on top of this shit"..

I had NO IDEA Matt died! I started connecting with him when he did his project bodybuilding site and would not say we were friends, but loosely were acquaintances that would periodically chat. I'm shocked...no idea he died. I've totally lost touch with him the last two years other being facebook friends. So sad...think he had two kids as well?
