Going to ditched my Harley and go back to my roots of racetrack bikes. Anyway, been shopping around in the Chicago land area for the above and to be honest I've been highly impressed by the Ducati 848 but the $12,500 price is kinda hard to bite but at this point I price is not a problem, however, the GSXR 750 is one cool looking bike and race proven as well, actually I have always owned gsxr but now I'm debating..

Pro's and Con's? Ideas, suggestions???

my last bike was an '06 750. in all the track tests, the 750 trounces the 848 in the acceleration/top end department, but the 848 is on par in terms of cornering.

the 848 has the 750 on sex appeal by a longshot IMO. the 848 is just pure sex on wheels.

i would buy the bike depending on how you ride. if you just like to ride, cruise, and pose, then go for the 848 because it will impress everyone at starbucks.

but, if you do trackdays and hard mountain/canyon riding, go with the 750 because it will be alot cheaper to fix when you wreck it. and YOU WILL wreck it. :D

you can also really slam the throttle coming out of the corners without worrying about the back tire coming loose. ive not ridden the 848, so i don't know if the torque of the bike will make it more squirrely at full lean...

and that top end rush of the 750 is hard to beat...7K..8K..9K..WHAM!!!!

how does the old saying go? if you aren't wrecking every now and then, you aren't trying hard enough. i think that pretty much sums it up. can you afford to wreck the ducati?

jap bikes are appliances. italian bikes are collectors items.

Well since the Ducati has been winning all the races lately and riden by Casey Stoner from Australia, and he has taken out the world championship on a Ducati I don't know how much more race proven you want. But if price is not the objection then it would have to be the DUCATI!!

I vote the gsxr, but im a bit biased. Its a sick performer, especially if you play with the gearing slightly.

The duc is like a ferrari, not the absolute hands down greatest in terms of performance (fast enough for sure though, just like any other decent sportbike), but it will sure turn heads a lot faster than your average gixxer.

Id think about things like maintenance/parts too, there isn't a duc dealer in my area (although we do have aprilia and a few other things)

GSXR, lol my RMT had a duc two years ago and got rid of it within two months, hated the powerband, ridability, everything.... beautiful bike, but just not the performer he wanted.

If you want to go fast and straight, go with the GSXR.
If you want to corner and stop on a dime, go with the Ducati.
If you want to freestyle, go with the GSXR because the price of parts on a Ducati are way too high.
If you want to stand out from a croud, go with the Ducati.

i own an 07 zx10r personally and love it we have a pretty hardcore road coarse here now so its fun on track days.. if i had money to throw away id probably own a "duc" the GSXR is much more practical money wise and tons of aftermarket support if you lowside it which you will probably do you can get plastics super cheap and easy! the ducati on the other hand has a slightly less supportive aftermarket in the way that things are just retardly expensive so it comes down to what can you afford really.. both awesome bikes.. casey stoners bike kicks some major ass i know it pissed off valentino rossi enough to threaten to leave yamaha if they didnt build a bike that could compete with it... this should be an interesting year in MOTOGP lots of new bikes being desinged

my boy is keeping his hiyabusa in my friends garage. ill try to get a pic of it. i dont know all the specs, but it has the swing arm extension and lowered. and it has factory turbo, that goes to 15 pounds of boost and its only set at 7.5. 260 on the face and my boy says hes seen it.....on the back with his dad driving!!WTF:eek: this machine is a beast.

neither... buy a 1000. ull regeret it later if u get a 750 or the 848.
also ducatti is gonna be alot more in maintience and its slower in the straights and corners.
if u wanna be a poser get the duc if u wanna ride hard and fast get a 1000 of your choice.

the gsxr750 has gotten sportbike of the year for how many years in a row now? and it gets that award for much more than it's straight line performance.

if you look at the track time tests, the 750 soundly beats the 848, and this isn't just because of accelearation/top end.

the 750 is a track weapon, the 848 is a sex machine.

How about the relatively affordable new 1098...

In all honesty I'm picking up a GSXR 750 as soon as I can afford it. The newer one's are so hawt. Anything before 2004...blech. Ugliest sport bikes of the early 2000s.

Nice summary!!

I gotta say the 848....my god that bike is HOT

GIXXER all the way!!!! only cuz I have a gixxer....kinda biased but too much fun and its almost inevitable that you will lay it down and ducatis are so expensive to insure and get fixed... The one post that says appliance and collectors item.... close.... either way its gonna be like a toy (at least mine is) I used to stunt big time at tracks and everything... now its my main transportation but theres no feeling like taking a corner and if you had a knee puck you could use it then coming out of the corner flipping the throttle and up on one it goes!!!!!

days at the track with our photographer... fun times

Get the DUC, the GSXR might be faster but that’s like saying my Mustang is faster than your Ferrari, this is coming from someone who totaled three jap bikes because that’s what they are made to do

Friend has both and prefers his DUC

KEEP YOUR HARLEY! Seriously though to each his own, if you might be interested in a used GSXR750 i have a good friend selling one and you will save thousands over new, a good move because sport bikes hold very little residual value. Anyway if you want to PM me your email i will have him send you pics and specs on it...it is a badass bike.

Seriouslly bro im not sure what your into, cruising, track days or stunting. But get the Suzuki. I absolutelly love Duc's but they are high mainteince bikes, that require an experienced mechanic to work on them. I have a 06 gsxr 600 with -1 +2 sprockets, yosh header back, pirrelli race tires, stock rear shock and revalved forks. Far inferior to a duc. My uncle has a 996 and honestlly i whop his ass around the track every time. He will catch me in the straights but can not handle me in the turns. I can power out of turns with out worring about my rear kicking he can't. Another thing if you ride like i do you are going to go down it just hjappens sometimes it your fault, sometimes the track conditions make it happen. Suzuki is much cheaper to repair. But just my 2 cents. Get what makes you happy

If you can afford it, I like the Ducati. But I tell you what, for the money the Suzuki GSXR 750 is alot of bang for the buck. You can get a new one around here for about $7500 out the door. Another option check out the Hayabusa 1300 for just a few grand more.
