Concerns about dangerous side-effects and rapidly developing cataracts resulted in DNP being discontinued in the United States by the end of 1938. DNP, however, continues to be sold on the internet illegally, targeting bodybuilders and athletes who want to rapidly lose body fat. Fatal overdoses are reported on occasion.

just as a bit of info on that, cataracts only ever formed in women so theoretically speaking a man exposed to dnp would not suffer that side effect
