Ebay retard

|--[\\\]>--------- Unlike many of you, i'm an ebay retard, i have never used ebay myeslf so i was wondering if i could ask the assistance of any of you professional 'ebayers' to help me out. i have a general idea of how it works, and i also know that some ppl use a "auction sniper" to bid at the very last second....if one of you knows how to do this, pls. let me know of where i can get this and how to use it? there is an item i want really bad for my bike and it's auction ends in 9 days so there is time.

Well here's what I do.

To begin with, always do your research before you attempt to place or win a bid. I have seen SO MANY TIMES where someone has bidded more than they could've bought the SAME item from that person at their store for LESS money!!!

Manytimes people will pay MORE for a used something than they could buy a NEW something - I've seen it a lot!

I always set a figure (dollar amount) in my head that's the highest I'll go. Now the tricky part. Say a starting bid is $10 and your willing to go $20. Let's also assume that bidding is setup in increments of $0.50. If you're the first one to bid, you can bid $20 and the ACTUAL bid will be $10. If someone bids $10.50, the site will trump that bid with yours, which will be $11.00 IMHO, if you enter $20 "first" you risk losing to someone who's willing to pay more.

I wait until the last 5 minutes of bidding to enter my "high" set dollar amount - remember, it that's higher than what's already bid, it will just increase by the bidding increment that was set. If you can wait until the minute possible, that insures your chance. Say someone is willing to bid $22 for the same item and you bid your $20 first. They wnet in after your opening bid and figured out that you put in a high bid amount. They wait until the last possible minute and go in and enter $22. You are watching and see that someone outbid you at $20.50. So you figure - I'll go $21 (that's why I said to set your threshold and do your research in the beginning) only to discover that you've been outbid at $21.50. I've had this happen to me many times!

And I DON'T DO PAYPAL!!! Many sellers are set up to take debit/credit cards. If not, I'll mail a MO.

I thought it was going to be another Ebay retard selling Juice :D

Goodluck BBA, Same as you I have no idea or experience with it.

BBA, lucky for you my girlfriend has some experience with this so here:

she says: come up with an amount in your head that is the absolute max that you would pay for it. wait until the last few minutes of the auction and keep refreshing the screen. when it gets down to under 60 seconds, then hit the "place bid" button with your max amount.

I can tell you from experience, this chick is one helluva sniper!

[edit] I just noticed xcel posted the same thing...

She is exactly right. That's how I have done it. If you really want to cut it close, each time you refresh your screen, count how many seconds passed on the e-bay "time left" when the screen refreshes. You absolutely want to stay current with the time on that e-bay screen clock. I waited until the last 20-30 seconds, that way there is no way possible for anybody to counterbid you. Also, a good point to remember, if the maximum you are willing to bid is say $!,000.00, add a few dollars to that. Bid $1,003.00 instead. Many people don't think about that. You'll be suprised how a few bucks can win you the auction. I won an auction for a car by $1 by doing that. :D

this thread is an utter disappointment, I thought someone was selling a retard on Ebay

Thats one of the funniest things I've heard in a while... LMFAO... :D

What you are probably looking for for closing bids at the last second is something like powersnipe.com. This site wins auctions for you, but there is a $45 a year flat fee of course...

|--[\\\\]>--------- JBK, i didnt say i was selling myself on ebay...duh!

I don't think you guys are understanding BBB's question. You guys are talking about refreshing which is time consuming and you have to be there when the auction ends.
In a 3 month period I won over 400 auctions, so I have a fair amount of experience.

BBA is talking about a program which will automatically bid for you even if you are not home, just as long as you are connected to the internet. You don't even have to have Ebay open in your browser.

BBA just do a google or Yahoo search for bid snipper. There are some free programs and some for about $20. The 4 I have tried all performed the same.

you just copy the auction number and it is automatically loaded into the software. You then go to the software and enter how much you want to pay and how many seconds before the auctions ends you want it to bid.

I did. I pointed him to powersnipe. But I wasn't aware that there were apps out there now instead of using another site. Thanks bro, I'll look them up. BTW, my feedback score is in the 220's so your's has got to be way up there. Never could get myself to purchase a car on there however. It just seemed to risky. How was your experience?

The state I live in used to have oral auctions for vehicles every so many months. Now everyone of them are sold on eBay. It's like a 28 mile drive to the lot where they're stored so you can view them and look at service records.

Actually I had won over 1000 auctions having spent over $100,000 and sold over 1200 auctions 100% Positive BUT through a book keeping error on my part I didn't pay for 3 items each worth approx $20 each and I was banned by Ebay.

As far as the car. The car I bought is fairly rare and usually well cared for. After finding out where he was located, on my own, I contacted the closest dealership which sold those cars. I then talked to the certified tech and he acknowledged he maintained the car and I asked his opinion.

I then called the local club president for that car and it turned out the guy was a member so he gave me more info. So I flew 1200 miles, picked up the car and drove it home. It was one hell of a wild ride lol

I have heard of this and not taken advantage of this. It should be in your state at least or near a town that you live in the US, that is if you live in the US. Either way they do this with paintings, art, auto, motorcycles, etc....

Actually what probably happened is this.

Say that person who was at $12 when he bid the item was at $11.50 and he bid $20. Well his MAX bid is $20. If no one else bids then he will only have to pay the $12. BUT you did bid so his amount went up to say $12.50 then you bid again and it went up to say $13.50.

No one else bid anymore it was that guys bid but Ebay just increases it when it needs to be. On that auction click on the link in blue at the top of the page to see the bids. You will see he actually bid earlier than today.

IMO you should decide how much is the MAX you want to bid. Then get Bid Snipper and enter that amount. It takes the emotion out of it and you don't get caught up in the bidding and spend too much.
