Experience in the game of lifting. Something that can't be taught it has to be learned?

Would you all agree?

I and many others on here have been on these boards a long time over 10 years and for most of the old timers we try to respond in a way to inform others and I guess teach. But to me it just doesn't sink into people, the have to learn things as the experience them and then it kicks in.

What are some of the things you have learned through experience?
I would like to make this thread about the "mistakes" or even discovery of things that helped or hindered you once you stopped or started doing them.

How about three little broad statements that always irritate me to no end:

"There's no such thing as over training - just under eating!!"

"You never can make up a lost work out!!!"

"I am bulking, then cutting!"

i have a whole list of mistakes I made in the last 20 years and I'll probably write them up here tonight.


So add your stuff in.
 
Great thread, Bro.

One of my favs is receptor downregulation.... once you hit 500mg/w of test e, the next time you run it you have to run 750mg/w

hahaha

and my diet is spot on...... i get 2,500 calories a week (not day) and 100 of that is protein.... i don't understand why i am not growing


now, I am not saying i made the second mistake - ever - but definitely the first mistake.... listened to someone who I thought knew his shit... essentially, he didn't know shit at all, let alone even met shit before....

Great post, and one of the few lately that is relevant to bodybuilding. Please post the rest of it, I'd enjoy it!

Number one on my list: Squatting is bad for your knees


Also:
- you need to do your stretching BEFORE you train
- increasing the amount of weight you lift is the only way to grow

"If you rub the area, it helps disperse the oil."
"Use [insert drug here] to kickstart your cycle."
"HCG should be used post cycle only."
"You have to touch your chest for bench presses to work."
"When you squat, you should pick up a pair of chopsticks with your butt cheeks to make sure you're going deep enough."
"You need to inject every day to keep your levels steady."
"Any cardio will hinder your gains."

(I know I have more)
 
1.Don't neglect stabilizers muscles to prevent inury, Rotator cuffs and some reverse hypers are examples of a few.

2.Perform a proper warmup with at least 5-10 min. of light cardio to get a slight sweat going then do warmup sets before lifting heavy.

3.Stretch after workouts to prevent adaptive shorting of muscles.

All three of these are needed to prevent injuries from occuring.

OOOOOOH, I FORGOT THE MOST IMPORTANT. Don't rub Tiger Balm on your balls if they ache after training.

"When bulking eat whatever you want and as much as you can. You can't get big on chicken and rice. You need calorie dense foods like pizza, burgers, fries, and ice cream. Then just add in protein shakes to even it out."

Yes, someone actually told me that.

I here this all the time from guys at work who train once a week with weights playbasketball at break time instead of lifting and down a six pak after thier softball games and go to happy every friday for open bar for beer and hotwings.
