Hey ProMuscle! I’m looking for a favor from you guys – I need your input / feedback on an idea that Justin and I have been tossing around and want to finally get rolling. The idea is what we’re calling the “Troponin Nutrition Training Camp” and it’s basically going to be a 2-day seminar covering all aspects of performance related nutrition and supplementation, namely for bodybuilders and strength athletes. The camp would be held in metro-Detroit, probably at a gym and would probably be a morning and afternoon seminar on Saturday, and then a morning seminar followed by a workout on Sunday. Depending on the input we get, this could easily change. Our bottom line goal is to provide an outstanding, valuable info-sharing weekend for the attendees, so we will let them dictate the schedule and content (but for now, we want YOUR feedback!).
The things we’re specifically looking for feedback on are:
-Would you be interested in attending a camp like this?
-What specifically would you like to see happen at a camp like this? (what would make you say “wow, that was an incredible experience!” when you left on Sunday)
- What weekend of the year do you think would be best to have a camp like this?
-What would prevent you from attending a camp like this?
-What sort of price do you think would be fair for a camp like this? (Note: the price to attend needs to be reasonable enough that people can come, but it also has to be something that is worthwhile for Troponin Nutrition to do. If we can somehow get a huge number of attendees, like 30+, we would be able to drop the cost substantially. If we only get 10 or 12 though [and we probably wouldn’t be able to do it if we got less than that], we’d obviously have to charge a bit more).

Any other input on anything related to this would be greatly appreciated (even if it’s negative, i.e. potential problems with this idea, etc.).

We’re looking into getting books made of course materials for all the attendees, and also possibly having some goodies from some sponsors. Also, I’m going to see if any area hotel would be willing to give us a group rate for the weekend.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you guys can give. I’m going to post this on a few other bodybuilding boards to get as much input as I can.

Respectfully,
Shelby Starnes

i think its a good idea, problem i see is obviously money....

for a person to come to an event tlike this it is going to cost at least 3-400 for airfair another 2-300 for a hotel and another 100bucks a day for food.... that right there is close to a grand then you include the cost of the camp....

most bodybuilders are not wealthy and for that kind of money you could hire an online trainer for 4-6 months.... i am not trying to be negative as i think a lot could benifit from one on one training and guidence, trying to teach someone how to train correctly online is difficult......

what is the cost of the camp if say 30 people showed up? if i were you or justin it would almost be worth loseing money on this to gain exposre and future clients... in the long run this is what will make you more money....

when i was in chicago last weekned at the jrs it cost me close to 1700 dollars for the total trip, (hotel, flight, food, entry fees, souviners, etc.) and all walked away with was a t-shirt that was too small! it kinda pisses me off going to these shows knowing the promoters are making some decent money and they cant even give you a shirt that fits! i mean how much extra would it cost to give each competitor a generic gym bag or something? i really liked doing the emerald cup last year, we got a whole buch of goodies! it makes you feel like you are being taken care of or at leat compensated somewhat for your efforts... (sorry to go on a tangent)

anway, i think the deciding factor for most would be cost.......

KM 2000 is there a shirt that fits you? Your a big dude!:D

I hear ya KM, I have never done a show in my life and don't know if I ever will but talking to a friend of mine that is a pro(not going to name drop), he said there is no money in it. There are only a couple of shows that pay and most of the guest posing doesn't pay shit either. He's not actually doing any shows this year at all and he's been around for years.

Thanks for the feedback Kenny. I think you're right - $$ is going to be the biggest factor. We're thinking about offering an "early bird special" for people who sign up early, and then offer a "regular price" thereafter. This would obviously also help us get an idea of how many people we're going to have ahead of time.
I've already had quite a few people tell me they'd be willing to drive from a few states away, and I'm guessing there might be a few who would fly too, but as you mentioned that can get to be pretty expensive. I think we'd get a lot locally too, since Justin has quite a following here in Michigan. If we can get 20 or so attendees, I think we can offer the camp at a pretty reasonable price. We're planning on creating a DVD of the seminar too, for all the attendees, and that DVD and the course book would be available for sale afterwards to anyone.
Thanks again for the feedback, please keep it coming!

What if the seminar was available to view, live, through streaming video from your computer?

Then you wouldn't have to be physically in attendance, however, you'd still be able to participate, as it will be in 'real time', in a collaborative environment. It would be live web conference which only paid participants can view.

Does that sound like a better option for those who can't get to Detroit?

hey shelby whats up man. i didnt h=know this was ur screen name over here... anyways-- take a look at how Dave Tate and the Elite Fitness guys do their seminars. they are well run, pretty affordable, and im sure they turn a nice profit. I think they set a price, and then a group of lifters finds the people to attend and they come.

i think it would be a great to do. a way to keep the cost down is to have it near an international airport to keep flight costs down.

some other thoughts i have, are that contest prep is what these days? 300 bucks? that would be a good price, but i think there should be something to take home. maybe some sort of info packet with some basics. also some individualized help on nutrition and supp plans within reason.

just some thoughts off the top of my head.

Thats a pretty darn good idea! They teach classes that way and I know it works, you even earn credits. Having video for both the attendees and the people running it so that they can see each other and fully interact.

Great idea.

I have thought about a 30 day camp, for want of a better name " Enhancement Camp." Hosted by BigA and Phil, with a couple of board Pros there and a few RN's. You would get trained by the Pros and have BigA over see syntherol protocols, with RN's doing the site injections.

The price would be high, but can you picture the changes in you body . . . no stone left unturned, protein by Synthtec and True Protein and 30 days of training with the Pros. I see it taking place at some resort, where the guests could sun, train and grow.

What a dream!

Boo
