FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ASK ME THIS QUESTION

Good article stating the seemingly obvious. A calorie is a calorie. Doesn't matter if its protein, fat, or carb

moment of silence for the meal phil took away from me last. i treasure the 5 i have left.

linked within the article phil posted....

**broken link removed**

let me tell you, the people in the "nutrition" field coming out of US universities are the DUMBEST around. they have NO clue, can't be in consensus on anything.

It all depends on who is *sponsoring* or paying American Journal of Clinical Nutrition for the particular study.

Always look for who sponsored the research to get a clue into what results the study are being guided to.

Very true....a lot of studies skewed because of this.

Good article Phil.

To correct myself, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition only publishes studies from various sources. They don't do any studies themselves.

The article didn't really say this, the way I read it. It was more about low GI foods not making you lose more weight. Comparing diets of "low"/"high" protein (same number of calories) for example would show in body composition for sure IMO.

What the article says previous data supports. GI and Glycemic Load is pretty useless when other factors are controlled (calories, amount of protein, EFAs).

yea, reminds me of the muscletech study that concluded that nitro-tech caused a 526% increase in enzyme growth factors mTOR and pKAC-176 vs. placebo. :p

exactly.

Basically it says you are better off just eating popcorn for carbs instead of more expensive fruit lol

I do not see where anyone says you are better off doing anything. How can grabbing an apple from a tree be more expensive than making popcorn? Heck, if you want to eat popcorn...........go ahead. I guess everyone reads something different from the same article.

Agreed...This study is about weight loss when comparing low GL carb diets to high GL carb diets. Nothing about nutritional content of the foods. That is just silly. Also, "...both diets were designed to cut their calories by 30 percent."

Missing the point...

I agree a calorie is a calorie, however it the low GI generally is thought to be helpful to people to achiever a reduction in calories by tempering blood sugar spikes and depressions that can lead to overeating.

That's like saying a car is a car. They all are good at getting you from one place to another. The body certainly does react differently depending on what macro nutrient it is digesting.

Thats the only thing I get out of the thread.

As far as the article goes, I never really thought the metabolization of one carb, vs another would make a huge difference. Thanks for posting Phil.

Well around here most people do not have apple trees in their backyard :D and 100 gr carbs from bought apples is a lot more expensive than 100 gr of carbs from popcorn

I do not actually believe this myself but that is definately what I make from that abstract
