question... do they sell all the common supplements there? like whey, casein, egg protein, multi V... all that stuff? and if they do, how are the prices?
i have a friend who's getting his graduate degree from there and he was wondering about this stuff...

No, it is very hard to get anything like that in China. There is basically no bodybuilders in China and the culture is not very sports oriented. You may find some of that stuff in the big cities (shanghai, bejing, hong kong) but you would have to go to a gym to find it.

A 200 lb person is HUGE in China, nevermind a bodybuilder.

Spring 2005 I went to Shanghai and Bejing, and although I wasnt exactly looking for a gym I only saw one. it was in a mall and impossible to see the inside. I did see a protein supplement, and it was a small, probably about 2 lbs, and dont remember the price, but remember how damn expensive it was. if i had to guess id say it costed much more than a 5 lbs jug of whey. And the people there are TINY! The little kids would take pictures of me with their camera phones while i was walking in the streets and stuff. It was a cool experience. The only thing i couldnt stand was the food. I lost over 10 lbs on the trip.

I live and train there months out of every year. I have never seen a supplement store, they will also not allow the importation of these supplements if you try and send them there. Not that their illegeal or anything they just dont have a custom's classification so they return them. I suppose there might be a way of getting them thru but I could not imagine the red tape it would take.

I have seen some protien bar's in Shanghai Gym's but they are half the size of our's here in the states.

In Hong Kong you can get supplements. I have seen a store in Kowloon, near the Eaton Hotel on Austin street. Prices are crazy high and everything is in smaller portions. You can however bring your own into HK but not mainland China.

By the way I have seen and trained with more than a couple of very large Hong Kongese and also a national weightlifting champion in Shanghai and let me tell you he was big and strong and could show well in a ameture BB contest.

Several good BB's from H.K also. Asian circuit. I doubt any could reach pro status here. I am 230 at 6'-0" and yes they think I am huge. Funny HUH.

I've been lived in China for 15 years. Although most Chinese do not have a tendency to develop hypomuscular physique/ or even hate big guys (LOL), there are still dedicated bodybuilders there.

You can find Optimum, Champion, Muscletech etc in China as well. The price varies greatly due to price discrimination. Some are overpriced for those rich ppl, some are ok.

There are many professional BB website in Chinese as well; they offer online sale of supplements.

The most convenient way to get supplements in China is to ask a trainer in some big gyms (powerhouse, Golden Time, Gold's, etc) But they are generally overpriced.

If your friend wants some supplements, he can go to this site:
www.dabin69.com

IF AND ONLY IF HE CAN UNDERSTAND CHINESE, LOL
That site is owned by one of my friends, who is one the leaders in BB industry in China.

Anyone else wants more info for modern China?

There is a powerhouse in Shanghai, gold's got bankrupted,LOL
I believe there are at least 2 powerhouse in Beijing. There are also many local gyms, either hardcore with shiity equipment, or for regular skinny or fat ppl.

agree it's very hard to find that stuff in china. I was in beijing and never saw a gnc or protein powder. hell, it was tough to find something with any type of protein in it!

aw1218 dont take offense bro but I would love to go to china snd check out the knock offs. China seems like a really cool place. I would love to visit the far east.
