When is the last time you went for a run outside?

Had to run after my dog at the off leash park this morning. ;)

I figure running either works for your body or it does not. It was brutal on my ankles/hips when I decided to do a 5k to prove I "could do it".

I recall running 10k as part of my training and during these sessions I would be close to 22k "steps". That is a ton of impact on your body. Never again..........

Dude, he like stopped at the convenience store and also stopped to piss. If they had cell phones then he would have been f'ing around chasing Pokémon or something. It is not his fault, he was named Ricky. Anyone dependable is called Rick. Anyone wealthy is called Rich. Anyone smart and of good upbringing is called Richard. If people call you Ricky, then unfortunately my friend, you are screwed for life.

3 days ago ran total of 4 miles to a bar and back with my 2 year old in a jogger. I had 2 beers and he had a wattered down coke and macaroni. My knees were mad

Outside over 40 years ago. Spent a few years wanting to be an endurance athlete. Ran on a treadmill 25 years ago for a week or so then couldn't figure out why i should continue. I don't see any bodybuilders running or even power waddling quickly. Really don't have the build for it and the impact from all the extra weight is not that great in my experience.

Some say VO2 max is the best predictor of long life, and running is a great way to get your max up.

I ran in my 20's and loved it. I've been lifting since 18 and will never stop, but running did more for releasing stress. I too need to start running again, but I tell myself "I lift, and I'm active (averaging 10,000 steps per day)," but just running 1-2 miles 3X per week would probably do wonders for my overall fitness.

That’s a WINTER time activity down here in SE LA. If ya do it in the hot months you better make it a 5am or 9pm. It’ll still be nice and soupy, but the sun won’t be shining on you!

For my northern folks out there… I’ve had friends ask what it’s like here in the summer months. Best way to describe it is, once you get out of a hot shower just get dressed immediately without drying off. That’s what you’ll be feeling like in 10 minutes of any activity outside. Once you hit 30 minutes outside you’ll be soaked through, underwear, shirt, pants/shorts, etc.

Not counting cross country in PE class when I was about 14 I have never been for a run outside. Although I probably walk faster than some people run so it's not as bad as it sounds :D

I ran outside this morning. I know this is professional muscle and is a bodybuilding forum. Bodybuilding is / will always be my first love, but I will never give up certain things for it, running, especially outside, is one of them, hard cardio, hiit, sleds, ropes etc are some of the others

I just came back from one, I was going to head to the gym and do some cardio and cals but I said screw it let me go run up to the park at the end of my street and I'll do some sprints when I get there.

I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed I am in myself right now. I do incline walk or the elliptical at the gym but I haven't been running outside in years, just haven't don't know why.

It started off all bad, I felt like a robot as I was running and not like terminator cgi badass robot like 50's bad sci-fi costume robot. Just really stiff and couldn't get into a rhythm and I was out of gas after the half mile to the park. I walk to the back of the park to do some sets of sprints and it's like I'm missing gears. I was always fast really fast and I just couldn't get rolling.

Did my sprints and walked home like I had just lost my dog. This is unacceptable I need to get back into some kind of actual shape not just gym shape, for the first time in my life I felt like a meathead today.

Someone empathize with me please, I need it 🤦🏻‍♂️
trust me when I tell you this dude, the urge will be to want to start hammering miles, and sprints, and etc.

don't

low intensity, low impact, zone 2 base building.

just start 3 x 30 minutes a week at a base minimum, then start adding sessions and or time / distance

again, the urge is going to be going harder than zone 2...don't, milk the base build for all it is worth. It is simultaneously the best way to trim back some body fat while preserving lean tissue, while also getting into proverbial "shape".

When I was 16 I used to run 15-20km each week. Also did sprint training. After 6 months in the gym at the time I never ran again.

Never was a big runner but I was in to road cycling for a couple of years before getting back in to the gym, funny outfit and all. I had a really nice Specialized Tarmac Pro with the electronic shifting and everything. I got pretty good at it and was typically riding at the front of the large group rides. What I really enjoyed about it was being outside and riding on the peaceful back roads early in the morning on the weekend! Definitely a meditative type of experience! It is such low impact on the knees which was also nice! I also met a lot of cool people on the coffee shop rides! Mostly retired military and business owner types. Also a lot of dentists for some odd reason!

The downsides were that it is VERY time consuming and to get in a decent workout I would have to commit to 2-3 hours of time on a Saturday and Sunday (anywhere from 25-35 miles) which is a LOT of time when you have a family, work, school, etc.! Not to mention shorter rides (10-20 miles) on the trainer and around the neighborhood during the week to stay in good conditioning. Also, it is super dangerous if you're not riding with a group which I did frequently to get in more hours on the bike! Whereas the gym is typically less than an hour only 5 days a week for me so much more "bang for you buck" to get in a solid workout!

I may revisit the cycling one day when I am old and retired and the kids are grown and I have hours of time to waste lol.

The last time was a sprint where I got a minor hamstring tear back in 2017-2018. Ive actually been thinking about trying to work up to doing a mile run 1-2x a week. I do incline treadmill but I feel like some higher intensity cardio is needed too. Biggest concern is just injuring myself at this point.
