Whats a good way to lower your heart rate for at least an hour or so? I don't have time to order Valium or something. I failed a medical with a heart rate of 108 ... the max limit is 100. So I want to make sure I'm set for the retest

WELL

WHAT IS YOUR LIFESTYLE LIKE? DIET? TRAINING? MEDICATIONS? 108 IS QUITE HIGH....

It's normally 80. I don't know why it was high yesterday. Maybe nervousness and the coffee. But I was wondering if anyone knew any ways to lower your heart rate ... just want to make sure I pass the retest.

Diet is ok. Low carb. Medications were none. I was on T3 for a while but stopped about a week before the physical. Lifestyle is somewhat sedintary, but I run 3x a week, lift weights, box, etc. So it makes up for it.

Caffeine raises your heart rate, stress too. Beta blockers would slow it down, but I would go the healthy way. That's high. More cardio?

Cialis/Viagra!!! LOL!!! J/K. Yes, doing more cardio over time would lower heart rate.

Restest is in a few days. Not long enough for any cardio to take effect and not long enough to order something like Valium, etc.

absolutely no caffeine or stimulants of any kind and try some deep breathing to calm yourself

That would do it.

Try this: get to the Dr.'s office 15 min early and rub one out in the bathroom - JUST KIDDING!

Try no caffeine and maybe some Valerian root or a Benadryl.

Meditate.
Control your breath: 5 seconds to inhale and 10 seconds to exhale.

would running a mile or so 1 hour before the test lower it due to faitgue?

if you do more cardio your RHR will decrease the lower the RHR the better... i have a 57

Where you rushed into an appointment or do you have white coat syndrome i cant stand going to the dr's most likely because the guys a pain in the ass but works with me, but everytime i go in there my heart rate is up about 20-30 beats or so more than normal.

Yoga can lower your heart rate. It would take a ewhile to get the hang of it though. I used to do it alot, but fell off the wagaon a while back. It really does help. Your mind can do powerful things if you train it right.

I also have white coat syndrome. I can lower my blood pressure and pulse by sitting still, or lying on the table, closing my eyes and doing slow deep breathing techniques for calming. It takes me less than five minutes to reduce the "anxiety" induced rises.

Also as someone mentioned before, the beta blockers do work pretty quickly,

I would check your pulse regularly between now and the examination and make sure that the high heart rate doesnt occur at times other than at the doctor. Maybe you do have a medical problem developing that is causing the high heart rate. This is a slight possibility. Just be sure that it is whit collar syndrome and not a genuine problem. Covering it up by using medication is not the right thing to do.
