about to have my wisdom teeth extracted in about 2 hours. do u think i could train like normal right after the surgery or should i take a few days off... i just want to heal as fast as possible so i can EAT again soon! but i just took my week rest from training last week and i dont wanna take any more time off.
what to do!

take a few days off. the simplest thing that can go wrong is the wounds bleeding due to your blood pressure rising during intense lifting. that and the meds can get you pretty sick.

definitely rest up. i doubt you will be in the mood to train anyway. whey and oatmeal shakes are probably your best bet for the first couple meals.

Yea you will probably pop the stitches. Some people react well to the surgery and some get bid ridden for days. I went out that same night cause I was fine, my buddy was in bed for a week.

I would go home and take a nap then wake up and eat something you don't have to chew and rest for the next couple of days. You don't want to disturb the holes in your mouth and get a dry socket.

I don't mean to be rude, but that was a ignorant question.
Basically, pulling wisdom teeth out is like doing surgery (in your head). Lifting weights increases BP dramatically while you're under physical load.
Do you really thing it would be a good idea to lift weights after that?
I'm just trying to invoke the use of thought process and the use of logic in people as over the years there tends to be a serious decline.

Good luck with your wisdom teeth extraction.

Rest!

With the meds you will most likely be on, you will probably get light headed with any strenuous exercise. I would not recommend you pushing yourself physically for several days. When I had mine out, I waited to lift for 2-3 days. I don’t believe in the "NO PAIN NO GAIN" mentality in this case….If in doubt, rest it out!

Just my 2 cents….

You will definitely need to rest up for a few days. No sense in making things take longer to heal by working out, plus you want to be able to get the nutrition you need asap.

Different people react differently. If you go under, I wouldn't even consider working out for a few days. If you go local, it may not be so bad. When I had mine out (local), I was back in the gym the following day (just took it a bit easier...lighter weight, less reps).

If ya can't eat for a day or so, be sure to have some extra whey on hand! ;) Good luck bro.

thanks for all the advice guys. its wasnt bad at all but my mouth is still totally froozen and its been 4 hours! asoon as i can feel to swallow ill plow into my baby food i baught. each little container has 14g of protein! beef and veal. doc gave me percocets for the pain hope i dont get too loopy lol

Rest up and just hit it that much harder in a few days. I wish you a speedy recovery.

:D

why workout if you cant eat?

exactly. just take a break. find something to do to take your time during this rest, unrelated to bodybuilding. drink some shakes and do some cardio in addition to popping Hydrocodone and watching DVDs. man, i miss having my wisdom teeth pulled.

Road:

There are varying degrees of difficulty/healing with the wisdom teeth. Some are trivial recoveries, some non trivial, due I suppose to the placement of the teeth and damage made while extracting. I played a game the following day, but I've had friends out for a couple of days. It varies with your particular situation.

I was eating the same day. You can also use LBA's I assume even if sore.

One piece of advice, err on the side of caution. An extra day or two for saftey means very little in the scheme of things as far as training. Good Luck.

P.S. This was many moons ago but my mom stopped at the post office on the way home from my surgery for the wisdom teeth for a moment, and it took three men to get me back in the car. I remember none of it.

i decided to listen to your advice and didnt train and took today off work (i do construction) just been laying on the sofa iceing my face and eating a ton of babyfood, cottage cheese, protein shakes with penutbutter, applesauce and pudding. i think my protein intake is good but my carbs and veggie intake is lacking guess its time to break out the blender!

I had mine out a long time ago when I was in High School and I took of I believe 3 days. 3 days off wont hurt you at all. Better to be safe than sorry. I know that I blew my nose too hard and blew a blood vessel in my eye right after surgery. The doc said that was a common side effect. I wouldnt do anything to raise BP too much.,
