Hip Socket Pain After Seated Rows - Anybody else experience this?

A couple months back I started getting pain right where I feel my hip socket is. That’s what I think at least. I could feel it everytime I took a step and put weight on that side. I was able to track the pain down to my back day where I do seated cable rows. Naturally I stopped and subbed them with bent over rows, T-Rows etc. The pain went away shortly after stopping the cable rows. So I know what’s causing the pain, but why is my question. I’ll make an appointment with my primary care when my schedule frees up in a little bit but I’m just curious to if anybody else has this issue or has had this issue. What was the cause? Tissue injury? Tendon?

I would suspect that it's a lower spine issue putting pressure on the nerve in that leg.
Unless you have something wonky going on with your position.
I use to plant my right foot then push back and plant my left and I started getting knee pain from that. Could it be how you are getting into position??

I'm no doctor but I am loaded up on stims this am...and took a and p 1 and 2...id say be careful with that one. Primary won't help much insist to see w specialist and maybe get imaging...I believe hip has a labrum like shoulder... don't want to mess with that. Based on imaging should know what treatment is needed.... perhaps PT. I wouldn't do any exercises that cause pain or stretch it thinking that would help. Again could totally not be labrum too but that's like a worst Case hopefully it's a nothing Burger.

Are you inadvertently shifting weight distribution to your forefoot as the LB's climb? In any event, you may have a deficiency in ext/int rotation of the hip that is presenting in whatever form is taking place on that movement.
Could also by an SI issue that is referring pain.

Conor Harris, E3 Rehab are some good places to start to find a few corrective exercises for these potential problems. Both are on youtube. You could at least rule out some stuff very quickly with a few days of experimentation

Your stims have you on the right track IMO, I would guess labrum as well. I had a small tear in my left hip socket labrum and in certain positions it was painful.

Are your toes pointer slightly out along with knees? Not saying they have to be but if not I would try this along with different stance widths and see if it helps

I know my aunt had to get some surgery on hers. Apparently the doctors said all the yoga she was doing, she was over stretching the joint. I myself had a slap tear in shoulder labrum, thankfully no surgery just PT to strengthen the muscle around it worked. I know labrum surgery are a last resort and they are tough to heal with no blood flow. I feel very fortunate I didn't need surgery on mine, ball and socket joints hip shoulder are tough injuries for sure!

I do remember though after my knee surgery I was having hip pain probably from overcompensating how I walked when healing, never did anything it went away, hopefully that's the case here.

I hope not. Ive had nerve damage in my arm when I was younger after an accident and it took nearly a decade before full feeling came back. When I sit down at the machine ive got both feet planted on the "pedals" before pulling back on the handle. I don't think thats the issue but im definitely not going to rule it out.

No they're not. Im going to wait on imaging though before I hop back on the cable row. Ill keep it mind whenever I get the okay to resume though.

I agree with everything you're saying.

Were you able to recover to 100% after the tear?

This all did start when I started hitting PRs. Good point, I actually forgot about that. What is SI issue? Im not familiar with that term.

Different scenario, but had a minor left hip injury when I played ball in college. To this day it sometimes still gives me issues on certain movements.

I love cable rows so instead of planting my full foot not on the platform I just put the top half like you’re going to do a calf raise for support. I drop the weight a bit and come back further on the seat to really focus on the stretch and negative. Very humbling, but will burn your lats and for me takes all pressure off the hip socket.

How I'm imagining this in my head is that this position will keep your legs from remaining stiff and that should take the pressure from the legs off of the hip. Is that right?

Spot on. I’ve had so many guys at the gym try it after seeing me do it and now they do it religiously. Forces all the pressure off the hip socket and into the lats where it should be.

Hip issue can be so many things, from nerves to a muscular imbalance.

Go to https://activerelease.com/ and find an ART practitioner in your area. I've had ART fix nagging issues twice, it's great.

SI = sacroiliac joint

Is the pain kind of in your groin or more lateral like where you can actually palpate your hip?

Thanks.

It’s not in my groin but within the hip if that makes sense

Tried to edit this into my first post but ran out if time...
There's actually somehow still some debate abt this but the sacrum does very subtly flex and extend opposite the flexion or extension of your L-spine. It can get stuck in a fixed position though and cause pain. You could have someone press on your PSIS (dimples above your glutes) bilaterally and see if they are tender, that can be a starting point for assessment. Sounds like there's people w a lot more knowledge than me that could chime in though

I obviously am struggling this AM with the advanced technology of posting messages on a forum haha
Yeah, that sounds like could be an actual hip joint problem. If you could palpate it on the lateral aspect of your hip then its not the joint. Feeling it in the groin or "within" like you're describing is consistent with the actual joint. Doesn't sound like SI but sometimes assessing that whole region can reveal subtle problems that could be contributing to the main symptom you are experiencing

Does it bother you at night? Like sleeping? From what I've read that can be classic for labrum tears, shoulder or hip

I am going through some bad issues with my hips. I hope you start feeling better soon. I know how annoying it is and I was in constant pain but mine have improved. Hopefully we are both gtg soon.
