HOT/COLD Showers speed recovery

What do you guys think about Contrasting showers (for those of you who shower after you workout), where you do periods of cold and then hot.

I first read this in Big Beyond Belief and thought it sounded kind of strange but have recently read it in about 3 or 4 other advanced training articles

I don't know how this would speed muscle recovery? haha but alot of these smart guys are saying it

I tried it tonight for the hell of it. I definately felt more exergized and spruced up. kind of wakes u up. I sometimes kind of just fall into a trance and stand there under the warm water and almost fall a sleep. This HOT/COLD is kind of uncomfortable to do but you do feel good after wards; regardless if it helps recovery. I have no clue if it does.

ive done it before. it works well i think. it really energizes me. it works to constrict and then dialate blood flow to get nutrients to and remove waste metabolites from muscles.
 
Don't ever take a hot shower before the gym. It kills me everytime. I guess it just relaxes my body so much afterwards.

I frequently soak in an ice bath right after training. I fill the tub up to the top with ice, then fill with water. climb in then turn on the circulation to get it really chilled down. 10 minutes in ice, 5 minutes in hot whirl poo. I do this 2-3 times. back when I was playing ball I used to do this after every lift and practice. now I just do it after hard leg/back lifts.

Makes sense. I have been told by doctors before to use hot and then cold compressions to injuries. Kinda like the same thing right?
 
I wanna try it after tomorrow's workout, but damn I know once I try to turn it to the cold water, I'm gonna puss out, cause damn I love hot showers.

But I'm gonna try lol

It is torture on your nips.....LOL

make sure you stay under the cold water long enough...same with the hot.....a few minutes. U definately do feel "different" once u get out.

it works, alot of track athletes soakin a ice bath after a workout. i haev done it before when i sprinted.
 
How the fk do you guys do it. Even on a blazin hot day, if i hit cold water in the shower, i flip the fuck out. Can NOT handle cold water at all unless its a pool and i just JUMP and even then the only reason i stay in is beucase its colder when you get out.
 
ahhh man I love a nice cold shower. Actually most of my showers are cold water instead of hot.

I know cold has some positive effects on reducing inflamation and damage to tissue post trauma, and I know a few pro athletes who use this as part of their post-training regime (the ice bath).

A chinese practitioner told a bbuilding mate of mine to try a warm bath for 20 mins post a quad workout. My mate swore by it for reducing soreness over the coming days. I tried it and it did seem to work, though I would think and ice bath would be better (I'm not coming home to one of those though). I suck on a post-workout shake with carbs and just soak for a bit. End up very relaxed if nothing else. IronMike
 
Ok...I tried it this evening. I stood under the warm water for about 15 minutes and then I turned it all the way to COLD. As soon as the cold water hit me, I felt a discomforting jolt to my lower abdomin. When I looked down, I saw that it was my cock and nuts had took off running up thru my pelvic cavity to find warmth!!! :) WOW..talk about shrinkage!!
 
the big beyond belief says to do 2 minutes hot followed by 1 minute cold. do it several times, i usually do it 3 times following a normal shower. always end with hot water.
