i want to hear what YOU GUYS think about protein supplements?

with a good handfull of pros and a lot more high level competitors on this board i would really love to know what you guys think about protein supplements and which ones you use. i'm sick of hearing 17 year olds parroting what the guy with the most posts said last week. so.... indulge me please.

how much of your total daily protein (in grams) do you get from shakes?

do you use just whey or a blend of different proteins?

do you even supplement with protein powder?


personally, i hate protein shakes, they make me sick, and i always feel that i'm cheating myself out of what my body really needs and craves - REAL WHOLE FOODS, but i'd like to hear what you guys have to say.

Then the question is can you eat enuff whole food to get the amount of protien you need ( 1-2.5 grams per LBS BW)? ITs hard to beat a 50 gram shake that takes 30 seconds to make and 30 seconds to drink.

i believe...

protein supplements are necessity, at least to me. Yes I do believe whole foods have much more bioavailability then supplements do, much like the difference between eating a orange and taking a vit C tab. BUT!!! Supps, help and are needed, they have a better ratio of fat/carb/protein then many foods do, and have their place in dieting and off-season modes. Many may not use them but many do, I use many during contest prep and off-season. I say make it available!!!

Supps are a must, if its C, E, Protein, Aminos whatever, we cannot get enough Vit and Minerals out of all the processed foods these damn companies make. Sure eat a Chick breast however must are just injected with GH and So much sodium... Whey is fast and easy and perfect for post workout because it absorbs so fast. Don't buy into the bad rap of Soy Protein its not as Estrogenic as people think :)
 
It's almost impossible to get 1.5-2g/lb a day from eating whole foods. I don't get much from powder by itself, but when I take it with meals it certainly helps me meet my goals. I still try to get as much from whole foods as possible, but I SUPPLEMENT with the powder.

I think that the best protein shake is the maxpro protein from Max Muscle. It tastes wonderful.
