He was always a great ambassador for the sport, had
a physique that was admired by men and women alike
and having done the absolute best with what he had.
And I don't think Frank ever claimed to be "natural"
in his prime, when at his best in bodybuilding. He even
admitted as much at a training seminar I attended,
that he put on. But usage back them was nothing
like it is now from what, admittingly, little I know
from people I have talked to.
Regarding his comments, some might say sour grapes
but I don't think so. He has been there - done that,
matured, has the advantage, the life experience, of
being able to look back, compare, evaluate, reflect.
One can do that, have that perspective when you have
been on top and paid your dues.
Sure his final comments are a bit of an exaggeration
to say the least (exploding bodybuilders), I'm guessing
he's just trying to make a point with the issue of health
due to all the extremes . . .
