I've had a weird involuntary muscle twitch in my right bicep. Really slight, I can't feel it, but can see it. It's been going on for a few days. It doesn't hurt at all. It doesn't seem to be an injury. I thought I read somewhere it could be because of excess ca in the muscle? I'd hoped it would go away after an upper body wo, but no luck...

I GET THE SAME KIND OF TWITCH IN MY TRICEPS. IT SEEMS TO COME AFTER I HAVE TRAIND ARMS. I ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE TWITCHES ALSO....

They are called fasciculations, and can be caused by muscle fatigue, dehydration, and magnesium deficiency.

Usually when it is isolated to one muscle it is a result of a minor muscle strain. When the muscle gets damaged it can cause fasiculations(twitches). I get those in my triceps or pecs many times when I overtrain. I use it as feedback to back off a little.

Thanks guys... I'm not sure at this point. I really don't think it would be a strain. I've done very little bicep work. Ca/mg I think is OK, but I'll up it to see. Dehydration is a possiblilty. I'm type 2 diabetic, and have had some dehydration issues my doc thought were tied to it, and it has been fairly warm the last few days....

I have an annoying twitch like this often in my left eye lid.

Thats probably more likely to be a nervous twitch (e.g from stress), my eyelids and lips twitch like crazy when i'm getting stressed to the point when i feel it happen i go somewhere quiet and calm myself down with relaxation techniques.

no big deal, its called "benign fasiculation (sp?)" or Inspector Dryfoos Syndrome (ask any pink panther fan ;) )

its from nerves, and you can get it just about anywhere including the muscular layer of internal organs which can feel pretty freaky.

i have a worse one than all of you... right side of my abs near the center, been going nuts for 2 weeks now. docs say "dunno, its just twitching"....

same side i tore my internal oblique on while wrestling...

hurts like a bitch the day after chest day when it twitches....

I get them in my Tricep. Not often but on occassion. Ususally goes away after 20min or so..

Also certain meds have this side effect... Do you take any antihistamines such as benadryl, claritin, or xyzal? These can cause the eye fasiculations especially but can also cause the other musle fasiculations... Many OTC cold meds like Nyquil have this side effect as well!

Whenever I start to twitch......I usually have a banana......and that seems to give my body some good potassium......and then the twitching subsides.....just my opinion though.

Yup, get some magnesium!

Good to know, I get them in my quad or tricep occasionally, I thought it was a small pull. I never thought about dehydration or electrolite imbalance.

Its because your human and have had diarrhea of the mouth (maybe, diarrhea), its called fasciculation, rather than reinvent the wheel here is wikipedia

A fasciculation /fəˌsɪkjʉˈleɪʃən/, or "muscle twitch", is a small, local, involuntary muscle contraction and relaxation visible under the skin arising from the spontaneous discharge of a bundle of skeletal muscle fibers (muscle fascicle). Fasciculations have a variety of causes, the majority of which are benign, but can also be due to disease of the motor neurons.
Causes and risk factors

Conditions
The origin of most cases is at present unknown and usually inconclusive, has therefore been given the title benign fasciculation syndrome.[1]
Neuromyotonia/Isaacs syndrome
Lower motor neuron lesion
Werdnig-Hoffman disease
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Kennedy disease
Organophosphate poisoning
Benzodiazepine withdrawal
Magnesium deficiency (which can be caused by stress)
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis
Dehydration
Fatigue
Lyme Disease
Myasthenia Gravis
Rabies
Fibromyalgia
Medications
Other risk factors may include the use of anticholinergic drugs over long periods, in particular ethanolamines such as Benadryl, used as an antihistamine and sleep aid, and Dramamine for nausea and motion sickness. Persons with benign fasciculation syndrome (BFS) may experience paraesthesia shortly after taking such medication; fasciculation episodes begin as the medication wears off.
Stimulants can cause fasciculations directly. These include caffeine, pseudoephedrine (Sudafed), amphetamines, and the asthma bronchodilators albuterol/salbutamol (e.g. Proventil, Combivent, Ventolin). Medications used to treat attention deficit disorder often contain stimulants as well, and are common causes of benign fasciculations.
The depolarizing neuromuscular blocker, succinylcholine, causes fasciculations. It is a normal side effect of the drug's administration, and can be prevented with a small dose of a nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocker prior to the administration of succinylcholine, often 10% of a nondepolarizing NMB's induction dose.
Fasciculations can happen in any muscle in the body.
Treatment

Inadequate magnesium intake can cause fasciculations, especially after a magnesium loss due to severe diarrhea. Over-exertion is another risk factor for magnesium loss *your ironbrothers are correct on magnesium*. As 70-80% of the adult population does not consume the recommended daily amount of magnesium,[2] inadequate intake may also be a common cause. Treatment consists of increased intake of magnesium, such as nuts (especially almonds) and bananas. Magnesium supplements may also be taken, however too much magnesium may cause diarrhea, causing dehydration and nutrient loss (including magnesium).
Fasciculation also often occurs during a rest period after sustained stress, such as that brought on by unconsciously tense muscles. Reducing stress and anxiety is therefore another useful treatment.

I have had twitches like this on/off for years. Might be too much caffiene stored up. Had one that lasted over two months and annoyed the eff out of me.
