So Buffchick and I just got back from a trip to Louisiana. We were straight up in the biyou. Talk bout culture. Deep seeded culture. The cajuns really stay within their circle. What I mean is that they tend to only use local brands or products. Very nice, warm, welcoming people. We had a great time. Espescially considering that every social activity is centered around eating and drinking. Altough one thing that I really had a tough time with was eating all of the foods that I'm not accustumed to. I was raised as a midwestern boy eating my meat, potatos and vegetables. I knew I was in for it when I saw the "Specialty Meats Stores". I was introduced to boudans; a intestine casing filled with rice and some sort of meat. Nuetrea; a large rodent found in the swamp. Cracklins; pork rines, deep fried in lard, like pork rines on gear. Alligator Po Boy; no explination needed here. Begnaes; like a donut but deep fried with powdered sugar on top (these were the bomb). Everything is spiced to the max. I think that I'll have indegestion for another week. I had a tough time when I met Buffchick because she's filipino and I thought that filipino food was on the strange side. You ever try Chocolate Pork? I think that the cajuns may have her culture topped. Anyone else out there have any similar experiences? Another check mark in the culture department...
