ok,

someone please coreect me if i am wrong which i may well be, but the way i understand it:

.liver glycogen stores are only cabable of storing around 15g glycogen. this is used to provide energy to the brain which is constantly using it

.the brain uses around 100g carbs per day??

.during rest/periods of low activity/low intensity cardio the main energy source is fat?correct?

1.is the above correct
2.is liver glycogen still required during sleep/ does the brain still need fuel during this time and if so any estimations
3.is the primary energy source during periods of low activity/intensity carbs or fat, i have heard conflicting views

Okay, from what I was taught - it was a while ago, so don't hold me to this 100%.
The liver can store up to 100-150g of glycogen depending on the size of the person.
The brain uses about 50g of Glucose / 24h.
At rest 97.4% of your energy needs come from fat metabolism all things being equal. We always use ATP for our energy - there are just different substrates/systems that we get it or recycle it from; ie: ATP pool, Creatinine Phosphate, Glycolysis, Beta Oxidation.

i hear conflicting reports between the brain using 15g per day, others say 100g
 
liver glycogen, from what I have heard is 100-400 g's. I dont think there is a definite number

But during sleep your brain isnt exactly at rest by any means so yes to ensure brain activity there is still a need for glucose. As far as an estimate I really couldnt give you that.

Carbs are the body's main energy source, next is fat, and last is protein. If there are no carbs in the diet the brain will use ketone bodies when there isn't a sufficient amount of glucose available. For question #3, it all depends on the macros in your diet. Like I said before if there isnt a sufficient amount of glucose then the body will use fats (and protein as a last resort). Carbs will be used till they are almost completely used up, than fats will be used.
