lower back pain

I have eliminated deads and squats for the past couple of weeks due to low back pain. I will keep it up as long as it takes, but really miss them and know they have been vital to what little leg mass I have. What works to keep that tightness from setting in?
I've been stretchin in the mornings and have a couple of rehab exercises I do daily (really just light resitance strecthing) anything else I can try? I know its just soft tissue damage, the spine is fine.
Anyone experiment with taking a mucle relaxer that takes awile to kick in, maybe right before a set of squats of deadlifts? I know my form is good, but when I throw on any moderate weight y back tightens like a vice.

Tbonus,
I suffer from the same thing but I have decided that at least with me it comes from overly tight hamstrings. I am pretty flexible every way except reaching straight for my toes. In that position I get lots of pressure in my knees and its very slow progress getting them to stretch.
However If you sit on the floor with one leg pulled in, sole of your foot to the inside of your quad and the other leg out straight and you reach for your outstretched leg you can get a really good lower back stretch. This has been helping me and its getting better slowly but I still have a hard time toward the end of straight leg deads, or bent rows, squats have been ok since have been stretching. Knock on wood.

Thanks, I remember those from high school. Did bent over rows Tues and have had a tight back since. It drives me nuts when I see people at the sqaut rack doing 500-600 and my little ego is wincing at my small poundages.

ART therapy massage would help tons for the lower back pain. Also, moving your squats to the end of your workout might help to keep the weight down and less straain on your lower back...but be careful you will be a bit tired, so keep that form crisp.
