Cannot make this f'n stuff up...

**broken link removed**

--------

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. You can lift, strain, crunch and sweat all you want at the Planet Fitness in the Dutchess County village. But whatever you do, do not grunt.

Yep, "no grunting." It says so, in black and white, on a sign posted at the gym. One former member learned the new rule the hard way.

"This is really absurd, especially the part about the grunting," said Al Argibay, a corrections officer who learned first-hand "no grunting" means exactly that.

Argibay, a former competitive bodybuilder, joined the gym in September because it was affordable and convenient.

Planet Fitness is also somewhat picky, with a long list of dos-and-don'ts posted right inside the door.

"No grunting or screaming" is listed, along with "no bandanas or do-rags."

"We're creating an atmosphere that's not intimidating," said Carol Palazzolo, the gym manager, who yanked Argibay's membership on Monday.

Argibay said he was at a multi-press station, getting ready to squat about 500 pounds when the forbidden sin happened. "I let out a grunt, squatted down, back up, grunt again. That's it," explained Argibay. "Basically, grunt, grunt, basic breathing in heavy, and breathing out."

Grunting is commonplace at most gyms, but not Planet Fitness, which discourages so-called "musclehead behavior."

There's even a flashing light and siren on the wall, labeled a "lunk alarm," which sounds if someone grunts or drops weights on the floor.

Is it ok to grunt while working out?

Palazzolo admits she called the cops on Argibay. The Wappingers Falls police report said officers were asked to "escort a member out of the club for grunting while working out...which is not conforming with the rules of the establishment."

But Palazzolo said that's only part of the story.

"He did grunt, and when I told him he wasn't allowed to grunt, he got irate at me, he swore, and he yelled at me," Palazzolo said. "I asked him not to [grunt), he got irate and nasty, and I can't have him in my facility if he's gonna do those kind of things."

Argibay denied he yelled, cursed, or acted inappropriately. He demanded an apology from the gym and its manager.

"It's an attack on my character, and it's very embarrasing, and an insult," Argibay said. "At the end of the day, after serving your community as a corrections officer, the last thing I want is to be escorted out of the gym by the local authorities."

Palazzolo is standing her ground.

"I'm not out to hurt anybody," she said. "If he feels I hurt his feelings, I apologize for that, but I do not apologize for the way I handled the situation and I am not apologizing for our etiquette at Planet Fitness."

It's not personal, she said, it's policy. Grunters should go elsewhere.

you need to be quiet when your squatting 500 as to not to intimidate the obese women carrying on a conversation while sitting on the leg ext. :D :D :D

His bad for joing that place in the first place...jeezus:rolleyes:

LMAO,, :D :p :D

PLANET FITNESS IS FOR OUT OF SHAPERS TO STAY OUT OF SHAPE

pLANET FITNESS is not for guys who want to be over 200 lbs or want to lift heavy and get big, it is for people who want to look like should of ate better and should of starting lifting 20 years ago.

I guess you can't "grunt" while training but you can walk around wearing cloths that are TOO small with your fat and cottage cheese hanging out all over and your sweaty ass crack dripping all over the machines when they sit on them.. thats okay... people aren't sickened by the sight of that but a lil grunt is out of line.. They should rename that gym "Fat Farm" where the bigger you are the sexier you are...the healthier you are the less your money is worth.

I guess in a country where the average size of a women is " SIZE 12 " that's right SIZE 12 its okay but God forbid you took care of yourself and want to lead a healthy lifestyle.. Gyms liek that are there to keep fat ppl happy and healthy people out of their buisness...

I worked in a place just like that and the less thin people there is the better fat people feel about being and STAYING fat... and they know that.. out of shape is one thing obese is another, they want their clients to feel good about themselves being fat and if they are not motivated to get thin faster by seeing thinner people then the longer PLANET FITNESS stays in buisness... and it is a buisness...

I bet if enough ppl who were banned from their gyms were to exchange stories and compare notes a class action suite could be brought against the corportaion, better have a slick lawyer but i bet it is refundable with discrimination playing a small role in winning.. just a thought

Stupid

Why the hell would he join that gym in the first place?

Speaking of obese housewives in the gym, my Gold's has a "Women's Fitness" room in the back where men are not allowed. Not even to grab a drink from the cold water fountain in there when the ones in the main gym are broke.

If that's the policy, I'm tired of all these housewives doing their stupid lunges between the benches and the dumbell racks with their 2.5 lb dumbbells in hand. Go do that in the "fat women's fitness" room!!!

Just had this conversation with the manager of the wonderful fitness club
I belong to. I asked why the dumbells only go to 80lbs. He said it keeps
down the grunting. Alot of the treadmill pumpus asses were complaining
about the noise.

Is This A Joke?

This has to be a joke or early April Fool's! The only rule like this I've seen is "no dropping of weights." But I don't ever see them enforce that rule. This is absurd!
How can you NOT grunt and squat at the same time?

When I lived in Tampa the wife and I were looking for a new gym near our home and Lifestyle fitness was close so we went in for the usuall walk around with the manager. I asked where were the power racks and she snidly said "we dont want those kind's of people in our gym" and I said you mean people that actually want to get bigger and stronger and she said YES. I laughed and then we left. What a bimbo.

Thx for a new signature :D

What a difference with my gym where the owner has watched Coleman videos too much and is screaming 'LIGHTWEIGHT' throughout the gym all day long.

I might call the cops on him too because its getting annoying

Gotta agree what the hell you join a gym with a sign that says no grunting.

CROWLER

I've been asked to leave one place and told not to come back if I can't abide by the no dropping rule at another. Not a lot of weight was involved either time. First I was lowering 405 in the dead. I would even call it dropping. Lowering under control. The second I dropped 185 power clean. I was a little out of the groove and didn't want to risk injury trying to catch it. I haven't been back to either place.

Hard core gyms are few and far between.

What is America coming to when you cant even fucking grunt in the
gym any more. I agree on some rules like keep your cloths on, no
swearing.etc. NO GRUNTING! you might scare one of the cows. lol

This is a sore subject for me cause I live in an area full of yuppi pompus
asses that have takin over my town and trying to change the area to
they're likein and that includes closing down the community beaches to
members only and private marinas with condos. Rules and reg out the ass.
these politicaly correct bastards are the majority in my FITNESS CLUB.
And beings that these treadmill F....cks hate to hear grunting is because
it intimidates and makes them feel uncomfortable. Sorry for the spelling
but you get my point. Bottom line, they don't want bodybuilders there
period. Makes them look infearior.

Incase anyone missed that, I figured I would post it again so you can picture it in your mind as I just did. It goes well with JWBH post about eating fast food everyday.

This is obviously rediculous but the rules were posted and he joined the gym. Granted, the gym I workout in at home has a sign posted with some stupid rules, no one enforces them. However, sometimes grunting can get pretty annoying, or funny, depending the mood i'm in. I think my favorite is the guy that lifts weight and as he exhales he goes "pssss."
