measuring slin i u's on slin dart?
Is it true that each little dash equals 1 i u ? then would the #5 be 5 i u of slin? When measuring gh, the whole bottle of hgh has 18 iu. Now, when I draw out the liquid to the #30, that is CLEARLY NOT 30 i u !! so is slin measured differently than hgh?

I'm not sure what brand u have. is it serostim 6mg?

If so 6mg is in 18 iu. But that's only if you reconstituted it with exactly 1cc/ml of dilutent. (there's more than 1cc of dilutent in that vial)

These are supposed to be single use vials. If my pt had say hiv muscle wasting and the order was to give 5mg of gh daily. I would do dose math and 5mg=15iu, then I'd throw out the rest.

They always put extra in so you can get out your dose easily, other wise you'd have to get every last drop out, not practical in a health care setting.

when I use the gh, I only use 1 needle worth of water with the gh powder-my question is about how slin measuring is different, if at all?

1 iu of anything is still 1 iu. "iu" is just the measurement, it doesn't tell you how much drug your getting.

If you told me you took 4ius of GH I would have no way of knowing how much drug you got.

You would have to tell me how many mgs of gh is in 1 unit.

serotism 6mg, for example, it says on the box reconstitute with 1cc of dilutent (1cc=1ml=100units). If you do this correctly then there is 6mg of GH in 18iu. 18 divided by 6 is is 3. so in 3 ius there is 1mg of gh.

oh, and yes. each tiny line is a unit. the "5" is 5 units.

1 iu of insulin takes up the same amount of space as 1 iu of gh.

hi i am new to the board.

here is how i do it. say you have serostim 18 iu bottles. i put in 90 units of water( or fill the syringe to the 90 mark on the syringe)
now if you draw out 10units of solution u have 2 iu's of growth, if you draw out 20units of solution u have 4iu's of growth and so on. remember 1mL=100units. iu's is a measurement of concentration not volume. just like mg is a measurement of concentration.

ok-so in closing, so I don't accidentally kill myself with the wrong slin dose, I want 3 i u the 1st day-therefore I will count up to the 3rd dash on the slin pin and draw from there-thanks for the replies

technically insulin is measured in units, not iu's. so if there are 100units in 1 cc. then there are 100 lines on the dart then i think you get the point. i think you got it in the first place and you were just being careful. good luck.
