Metformin is highly debated whether it is something that will end up helping or harming you.
It seems like the major con is its decrease in igf-1 levels. I forget the cause of this but it may just be because it decreases amount of insulin produced. Also if taken with insulin it could cause un-predictable drops in blood sugar. So taking it while using insulin is a bad idea. Are there any other cons to taking metformin?
I never really looked into it but ever since last year I've gotten free metformin
And was using it when I was injured and not training just to resensitize insulin receptors.
I still have a ton of it.
Anyways, the pros seem to be:
sensitize your insulin receptors
Prevent muscle breakdown through gluconeogenesis
Appetite suppressant (if dieting)
It blocks absorption of some carbohydrates, if I remember correctly but you could just eat less so it's not really a pro
At least that's what I can remember at the top of my head, at work right now, just making this thread so I can go back to it tonight and read the replies and discuss later
