Neck Pains Help Please

I was doing lateral shoulder raises with the 30s after I had 225 on shoulder raises, while doing the raises all of a sudden on rep 8 my neck stared hurting in the middle ( the blue areas on the picture). Should I just not go as heavy? What are some other precautions I should take?

I was 2-3 weeks in my dvds

Regular deep tissue massage and occaisional visits to the chiro have kept my neck pain to a minimum. The areas that you highlighted hold a lot of stress be cautious warm up very well and do some internal and external rotations with bands and a small towel tucked between your body and elbow. After regular massage work my aches and pains went away and I am stronger than ever.
 
Does it hurt when turn your neck to the side? Perhaps you tweaked it when you were doing your raises. Did you turn your head to side? It's imperative to keep your head still when doing shoulder exercises. I've fucked up my neck a couple times in the past rotating my head to the side while doing military presses.
 
what do yall think of building up traps for more neck support
 
Yeah its definitely a possibility that i turned my neck.

But I think that I will also be warming up alot more, w/ the exercise mentioned above

I have had the exact samething 2 times,the last time was almost 2 weeks ago,the pain extends out to my posterior shoulder,it will probably be another week before tha pain is all gone,i was doing side laterals as well and did 3 warm up sets,i have been thinking of starting deep tissue massage on a regular bases. goodluck to ya bro.

If you have a sharp pain when turning your head, my suggestion is to go to a chiro. You will feel so much better afterwards.
 
Certain products have a tendency to make muscles really tight. You will feel this much more in the muscles that hold you up and support posture (i.e. your neck and back muscles.) If you have a disc issue you will feel fairly sharp "shooting" pain that starts along the spinal cord and shoots outwards. If its more nagging and pinching pain you may just have a pinched nerve (VERY common in the traps while on...) The blue areas you highlighted in the middle of the neck would be where the shooting pain would come from if you had a disc actually putting pressure on the nerve there. The "pinched" nerve in the traps and any other muscle is usually caused by tight muscles or swelling in the muscle. Again, this is very common while on cycle and the traps are loaded with AAS receptors and nerves.

Keep your head straight as noted by others here and warm up slowly and STRETCH your neck muscles a lot before training (all training) and while at home. Try slowly stretching your neck twice a day every day to loosen up the muscles that are most likely causing your problem by putting pressure on nerves there.
 
I have had similar pain for a few years. After a year of pain got an MRI, found I had herniations on C 4, 5, 6. I see an ART (active release therapy) practitioner whose primary practice is chiropractic and get great relief from his treatments every time I flare up.
 
I've had some neck injuries which resulted in pinched nerves. This made me lose the feeling and strength in my right arm for an entire month. I wrestle NCAA Division I so I was clearly pissed off. Went to physio, chiro, massage therapist but neither of them worked. Acupuncture was the only thing that worked for me so I suggest you give it a try.

It's funny you say that. I've wasted an assload of money on acupuncture in the past and it didn't do shit for me in terms of pain relief for anything. Taking 400mgs of advil did more for me than getting those pins shoved into my body.
