ok so since ive started training hard again, ive been cramping like a mad motherfucker lately, i take 6 potassium tabs a day to try to prevent this, which it does to a certain extent. i also try a cal mag d supp to get calcium to act as a lactic acid buffer, to ultimately stop the cramps
today i did weighted crunches for 3 one min sets, and now it feels like im getting stabbed if i sit/stand anything but totallu upright.
PLEASE HELP lol
i feel like a noob for asking this but it happens every day with every bodypart i train anymore.

first those potassium pills are regulated by the FDA to be a maximum of 99mg (stupid FDA), thats nothing. a good 10oz of orange juice provides that.

cramping can also be caused by low blood calcium, and hyperinsulemia, do you eat plenty of calcium?

another common cause is hypoxia, or oxygen deprivation to the muscle group. i would imagine this would be unlikely with you, unless you had some type of anemia or blood disorder
 
I used to cramp up by the end of my workouts and my problem ended up being just plain not eating enough carbs. Once I changed my diet and started taking in alot more complex carbs, the cramping went away.

I get the same shit sometimes, I noticed if I take any fat burners or stimulants it makes it worse, I used clen a couple times years ago and that was the first time it happened, I have never used it since, i cramped so bad on that shit I was stuck in one position at the gym and could barely move. I use cal,mag,potasium pills and it seems to help, also taurine helps but I can't figure it out cuz with me it comes and goes. :confused:

could it be due to low sodium levels? I do cardio and sweat but don't put salt on anything I eat. Sorry Frk not trying to hijack, just help ya figure it out.
 
I got my cramps under control with making sure i was alway well hydrated, taurine, and a good multi-vitamin. I started making sure i had plenty of all so i can't narrow it down to what prevented it. Sry.
 
I would look at potassium and water intake first. One baked potato has over 800 grams and 1 potassiumpill has 99mg. We need 3000mg I think per day, if yousweat a lot then you may need more.

I have been training in mma and sweat buckets. I do a cal/mag supplement, eat a potato or banan or avocado at every meal and drink 2 gallons of water a day. Since I eat no/very little processed foods I have to add sodium as well to get my RDA amount...........try this for a week and I bet you will stop cramping up.

you r forgetting magnesium. take 1000 mg twice a day and it will take care of things. sounds like your pot and cal levels aren't the problem. magnesium is a natural muscle relaxer. it can give you the runs too if you take too much.
 
When I have spells and everything is in check I use Quinine 200-300 mg

I do not use it all the time just when I am getting jacked up from the cramps.

ok im gunna try n answer the Qs here lol
i intake abt 2 gal a day of fluids, half water, half iced tea(crystal light or fresh brewed)
the cramping is always post workout related
my salt may be low per se, as i sweat like a fat girl writing her first love letter
im gunna try the soy sauce pre training n see how it goes
i use a good multi IMO, either a animal pak or vitakic's(get em for free so dont flame me lol)
i use a ton of arginine also, i havent read that this would deplete anything to make me cramp so bad but ...
umm my carb intake has been low lately as im peeling off some bodyfat, i fluctuate my carbs to stop from going homicidal lol
i use a cal-mag-d supp so im getting in the mag as well.

I use to get really bad muscle fasciculation (cramps and spasms) so I started taking a Mag/Calcium supp…it helped but I still got them…Someone then recommended taking the magnesium and calcium separately…there are studies that show they negatively work against each other when taken together…So I started talking them separately…750mg magnesium and 1500mg calcium twice a day…now I rarely have any problems.

I agree it is likely sodium intake is too low. Remember the sodium potassium pumps can't get potassium into the cells unless there is also sodium to remove from the cells.

I live in a very dry climate that is also over a mile in altitude, this makes for a lot of sodium loss, too little sodium is a common problem.
 
i just lookd at my cal mag d supp also
the mag content for 3 caps is 300mg total, that seems low to me
but tomorrow i will up my sodium at breakfast, a lil soy in my eggs

Best Solution For Cramping

If you want to deal with any form of cramping take pickle juice....not the juice (probably vinegar) that comes in the jar along with the pickles, but proper pickle juice, obtainable from a good health store or google it.
Trust me, taurine, magnezium, whatever, is a complete waste of time and money compared to pickle juice....it's also extremely healthy for you.

Yep some salt in my diet took away my cramping.. I was taking potassium citrate thinking it would help (I got 500mg pills) but it made it worse.
