I drove my mom's old 1978 dodge aspen. I began driving it at the age of 16 in 1986. It has the V8 in it, a 318. I thought it was the shit since it had an 8 cylinder in it! I remember taking corners on curvy country roads so fast in it that all 4 hubs caps popped off because it flexed so much. We had some really steep hills too that I would take and the damn thing would go air borne. A few times it slammed down so hard that it bent the gas tank on it.
Somehow it survived until I hydroplaned one night on the highway during a bad rain storm. It had been raining all day and the water had built up in the fast lane, the lane right next to the cement wall on I75. I guess the drains against the wall get clogged up and then rain puddles up. I lost the rear end when it went up on the water and then the front wheels went up too. I made a 90 degree turn going 60 mph and slammed into the cement wall /median. It flipped my car on its top and I proceeded to slide down I75 on the roof of my car! I remember looking out my car window and seeing the start fly by. Sparks were flying everywhere too as the sheet metal slid on the pavement. It went a long way, maybe 100 ft or so before stopping. A nice truck driver came over and helped pull me out of the car. It was totalled of course. I had the car towed home and the next day I got my good car stereo out of it. I had a nice Alpine system and that thing meant the world to me,lol. Then I had to pay a junk yard to come get my car, they wouldnt pay a dime for it. They said there wasnt a bodypanel on it anywhere that wasnt bent. I think I payed them $50.
