any good ones that actually work? i've heard mixed reviews on Crest White Strips.. wonder if there are any better OTC options out there

They work bro - trust me they work.

But of course it lasts for 3-6 months.

The strips are great, but if you have a bunch of crevices or holes or in between teeth that you want to change color then get a brush kinda one too.

The work just use as directed - don't miss a day.

But of course it's not as good as dental implants ;) if you are like many staars and have a ton of cash.

hey mate, thanks for the reply! i just talked to someone who said walgreen's version is just as good, if not better than the white strips..

so 3-6 months instead of 6 months its good for? which kind did you use bro?

Try the Rembrandt 2 hour whitening kit.

I've used a generic like walgreen and crest.

I like crest cause it stays in my mouth better, look online - you will see a lot of independent consumer report type of companies rating these strips, and usually crest is at the top. But take a look, for non bias source online that reviews and tests them all.

Well the effects taper off just like with gear - haha... but a little after three months for me is where it SLOWLY started to fade. But 5-6 months is a good time to hit it up again. I also don't ever show my lower teeth when I talk and smile (cause what lips are shaped) so the box lasts me twice as long - just wanted to point that out just in case you have the same situation as me.

If your teeth are truly a little off color or have some calcium deposits or whatever, it is definitely worth it.

I've seen some bad reviews, I just looked on amazon and compared to crest strips it doesn't look that hot. Then again cause of the reason for discoloration - you might need to try different products.

oh shit, good point! my bottoms dont show up at all when i speak because i have big lips.

LOL at the effects taper off like gear! haha. i see what you mean, nothing lasts forever :(.. yeah ive seen some bad reviews on that rembrandt stuff

Opalescence PT is amazine. You can get it at a dentist office but its a rip off because he/she will want to fit you for trays. If you look online you should be able to get some type of moldable tray with the syringes. I use the 20%.

Be careful with stuff. It only takes a dab. You don't want it spreading onto your gums because it will burn. Also, take it slow at first because it can lead to teeth sensativity.

Here is how good it works. My front caps fell out and I needed new ones. I told the dentist I wanted to bleech my teeth before she ordered the caps so she would match the caps with white teeth. My teeth were yellow from coffee and tea. I bleached for 7 days straight and when she went to match the color I had the lightest color available for caps.

I tried all the crest strips and other stuff. It did not work for me.

never even heard of it before. ill have to google it.. how long is the whitening good for? 6 months or something?

I've used the Crest White Strips PREMIUM (the most potent ones) after doing it twice a day for about 5 days my teeth felt so wierd/hurt/sensitive (hard to explain) I stopped using them, and had minimal results...

I did use some off brand one's with the trays and got some off-brand paste stuff from wal-mart (the stuff that you put in the trays and whitens your teeth) and that one worked better and only left my teeth sensitive for hrs - day...not a week + like the white strips!

My opinions

I will reply to this post with my professional opinion and comment to what was already said...

1. crest white strips is a good product. it works you need to follow the recommended protocol from the manufacturer.

2. It dose not really matter what product you use. All whitening product, be it at the dental office or OTC , the ingredients is the same. what matters is the strength of the solution(s). It can be as low as 7% or high as 35%. Ease of use will also be a factor to the consumer.

3.All whitening products will cause some type of sensitivity- this is expected. The sensitivity will depend on the patients tolerance. Sensitivity is relative.

4.To counter or lessen the sensitivity, I recommend using Sensodyne or any other antisensitivity toothpaste during the whitening protocol.

5.No need to taper.

6. Typically, your teeth will lighten a few shades.

7.If you have wedding or photo shoot and need the teeth white tomorrow, then I would recommend ZOOM whitening-results in 1 hour.

8.Opalesence-good product. I have this in my office.

9. Try to stay away from whitening tooth paste- too abrasive on the enamel.

**hope this helps.

great post. so far, i think i may go with the opalscence

crest white strips worked great for me. Everyone noticed

saw a thread on OLM where someone mentioned to "sprinkle" some baking soda on your tooth paste. has anyone tried this? i wonder if the whitening effect will ast as long as the white strips?

yikes

Baking soda. Where do I begin. Why sprinkle? Why not just get the toothpaste that has baking soda inside already. Arm and Hammer has their own baking soda toothpaste.

My advice, if you need to do this- do the baking soda thing 1 or 2 times a week. Don't do it every day. What baking soda does is it increases the amount of grit. You increase the grit, you strip your enamel more.

Baking soda toothpaste, whitening toothpaste works to a lesser degree than the strips. These type of toothpaste will remove the extrinsic stains, not the intrinsic type of staining.

These type of toothpaste work, but will do a number on your enamel. Remember, you strip your enamel, you cant regain it back. As for the sensitivity issue, some patients have, some dont.

One of my patient was using baking soda straight for years, without my knowledge. Her teeth was WHITE. I thought she was doing a home bleaching- until I asked her, i learned that she was doing straight baking soda only.
Long story short is that her teeth started looking grayish in the light-she noticed it too. Well, her enamel stripped too thin from all the years of baking soda use that her dentin (2nd layer) was showing through her enamel. She stopped, but too late. Now she is deciding if she wants to do veeners and crowns to cover that grayish look...$$$$$

Take care,

MS
