Pacquiao-Mayweather fight in jeopardy because of DRUG testing?

Whats do you guys think about this...besides perhaps the obvious?

The proposed megafight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was thrown into jeopardy yesterday with a demand by Mayweather's camp that the fighters be subjected to Olympic-type drug testing in the weeks leading up to the bout.
Mayweather's manager said the fight would not go on if Pacquiao didn't agree to blood testing under standards followed by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

"There is no fight without Olympic-style random drug testing," Leonard Ellerbe said.

Mayweather's camp claims it was told Pacquiao would not agree to have his blood tested within 30 days of the fight because of personal superstitions. But Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, said he could live with some testing, as long as it wasn't too close to the fight and wasn't overly intrusive.

But what are the BIG differences between Olympic type testing and Nevada State Athletic Commission testing. Is it simply a case of th Olympic testing being way more thorough? Or are there certain substances Olympic testing can pick up on.........or both?

One is urine (NSAC), the other is a blood test (Olympic testing )
The blood test will definitely pick up more substances on that test. Seeems to me, like he has something to hide.

EXACTLY! good point, sounds like a scared lil bitch to me. many people have failed the current style drug test. keep the rules the way they are and lets GET IT ON! pacquiao is going to put a beating on that ass! BELIEVE IT!

the nevada state athletic commission ought to take that as a personal insult from mayweather.

I don't know much about either them, but it's hard to believe either of them would pass an Olympic type drug test. Hell, you even have to watch how much coffee you drink and how much and of what type cold medicine (OTC) you take.

Mayweather has A LOT more to lose in this fight than Pac. If Pac loses, he'll lose by being outpointed. If Mayweather loses, he'll lose by TKO. If Pac loses, he'll still be loved by the majority. If Mayweather loses, his haters will rejoice and his supporters will lose confidence. Mayweather has NOTHING to offer the world and he only cares about himself and his money. Boxing is not Pac's priority nor is the money...the Philippines is. He wants to help change his country for the better and he will drop this fight if he's bothered with this kind of bullshit. He's a lot more focused on the upcoming election in the Philippines than he is on this fight. I think Mayweathers camp is counting on that...

Pac will get KTFO'd. He couldn't even finish a broken/battered Cotto. Mayweather has speed, KO power and the desire to keep a perfect record. Pac's best days are behind him as far as boxing. He has bigger aspirations.

Exactly. Gamesmanship. The fight began once they agreed and signed the contracts.

I've heard this same thing with a little more detail...it seems that in his culture they look at the blood as their 'chi' or something to that effect and that it would weaken them if they gave blood that close to a fight. Forgive me if that isnt exactly accurate...maybe we have some members here from that particular decent that can address that .

I think Mayweather's camp is just being purposely difficult and creating drama where there shouldnt be any. Like someone else said if its such a big deal do the test after the fight!

Even if Mayweather is bluffing or scared to fight then why won't Pacaquio call Mayweather out on it and just agree to the testing procedures and prove Mayweather and the critics wrong? The real reason is that the Arum/Pacaquio camp want to eliminate the Olympic type blood testing is because they know that samples can be retested at anytime after the fight so if they find new substances and want to reanalyze the samples they can. Plus they are only going to take a teaspoon of blood 48hrs before the fight, which will have been regenerated back into both fighters bodies well before the fight, so to me this is just another excuse Pacman is using because he doesn't want to get exposed. Afraid of needles? This is the most ridiculous statement that could possibly ever come from a world class prizefighter.

I could understand if Mayweather followed the same protocol with every fight and implemented an olympic test right before the fight, but to just want it for this particular fight is a bit unusual.

I think he's looking for an edge...mentally or physically. Just like the fight with Marquez. Mayweather intentionally came in over weight and gave his opponent a few more million.....I'm not saying that Marquez would have won the fight, but Mayweather did have a a benefit by not having to drop as much weight.

The Olympic style testing is random. Passing a test when you know you're going to be tested is child's play compared to not knowing when you are getting tested. Timing is critical especially when it comes to things like EPO.

I really don't think Mayweather wants to fight Pac, as he is the biggest threat to put a blemish on his perfect record. Mayweather doesn't want to lose a fight and this is the stongest and fastest fighter he has faced in quite a long time.
