Just wondering if anyone else has this problem and how it's affected your calf training or training in general. I've had flat feet all my life but never had a problem until a year ago where I was forced to get some orthotics. I like to training calves heavy and they have since taken a hit since I get a nasty feeling in my left foot when I train them too heavy. I'm trying to ease back into them and training them alot lighter so we'll see how that goes...

I used to get a pain in my heal in one of my feet in the morning when first waking up every morning. Then as the day went on it would go away but hurt worse the next day upon waking especially after a heavy squat day which isnt that heavy as I get older. I bought some new red wing boots for the gym and now I dont get the pain at all. I think my shoes might have been bad I also always get some new gels to go with my shoes whenever I get a new pair.

Now if I could only get the numbness to go away in my hands when driving etc. MM

I have plantar fasciitis and it sounds like you do too. The day after doing calves is the worst. It hurts on the arch and the heel. The reason it hurts worse after sleeping all night or sitting for a while is because the fascia starts to tighten up and as the day goes on it loosens back up. So as the day goes on the pain subsides a little. I started getting it when I was working 12 hours/6 days a week and always on my feet. I developed it over 2.5 years ago and it still hasn't gone away. At first I only had it in my right foot, but now I have it in both. I bought these inserts specifically designed to treat it and it does help. You have to wear them everyday and in both shoes, even if it only hurts in one foot. Here's a link to where I bought mine if you want to try them:

My feet are flat as can be and I have worn orthotics for 13 years and never had problems with training calves or legs.

When I was a teenager, my fleet were so flat, I had that stupid look when I walked, where the foot looked like it caved inside.
I conciously started walking on the outside of my feet. Coupled with bodybuilding (calf training), those are the reasons why I believe (plus I was doing it at still an early age) why now I have no flat feet at all.

They told me that I had it when I was working on my feet all day long. I have pretty high arches and they told me I should wear a good support in whatever shoe I was wearing and my work boots weren't cutting it by themselves. Since then I have put insoles in all my shoes and haven't had any problems with it. My pain was more annoying than anything else to be honest though.

Oh and the doctor told me that it was more common than people realize and most cases aren't major. With having flat feet I am not sure how that affects it though.
