I've always had a small marble sized ball in my upper right ab area, but as of last week, I've had slight pains and discomfort, no longer can train heavy without pain. I now feel two golf ball sized lumps in my upper left ab area and the one on the right is slightly bigger. I do feel a slight pull on my balls, but there is no lumps visible there in that area.

I'm going to the doctor's on Monday to check it out.

What do you guys think? Also those who have had surgery, how long to recover? Also will I be left with a big scar due to this....

I've had four hernia repair surgeries (poor genetics) so I can assure you that you will have a scar between 3" - 4", but from what you describe, I wonder if you have something else cause these are most common in the groin area. Can you feel anything in the lumpy area if you cough - cough light though cause you don't want to do more damage?

Recovery is no less than six weeks but I have been doing upper and lower workouts (no core) three weeks after the operation just don't go heavy or work the abs.

That scar tissue is weak even though you feel a lot better.

You'll know what's up after you see your MD on Monday.

Good luck.

When I cough I feel slight discomfort in that area where I have the lumps. I do not feel any lumps in the groin area at all. I feel a slight pulling feeling down there, just very slight when I lift something heavy.

I'll see what the doc says. Genetic wise, my father always had hernia issues, he had several hernia surgeries. So I think I'll be dealing with the issue as well.

The scar is going to be a piss off, how do guys with scars hide it on stage?

my hernias were fixed using a scope leaving no scars at all.

You're lucky they were able to go the arthroscopic way. I had to have a plug and screen so I'm guessing that's why they had to open me up. Lots of interesting hernia vids on you-tube - kinda gross really.

cheers.

The surgeon repaired mine (3) with the mesh fabric. Don't ask me how he got it in there though. An anesthesiologist at my gym highly recommended this surgeon for hernias and he was great.

I had my two inguina hernais repaired this way and it went well. I also had an umbilical hernia repaired with mesh but is was done open, didnt use the laprascope. Research has shown that for some reason on this type of hernia the laprascopic surgery had more reoccurances than the open method.

Mesh is the way to go for athletes. Newer, heals faster, and stronger. 2 thumbs up IMHO.

So I do have a hernia, I've been told to be limited on the training, etc. I'm planning on doing mostly cardio and high rep training short of failure for now, then when surgery is scheduled take a complete break off for at least 4 months.....maybe just easy walks and stuff.

Have any of you guys worked out wearing a hernia belt? covers from the upper abdomen all the way past the lower abdomen?
