Was at the Arnold and took in some of the USA Powerlifting competition. This was the first powerlifting comp I have ever been to and really enjoyed watching these guys power some big time weights. They had the raw on Fri and the equiped on Sat.
At the raws (no suit or knee wraps) one guy squatted 607 successfully for his second attempt then on his third attempted 617. He blew out his knee and collapsed on that one and it was a real shock for the crowd.
My question for the lifters that compete in powerlifting or follow it is how often do these serious injuries occur and are they more frequent in the raws with no wraps or suits or shirts?
One other comment is that the USA Powerlifting is VERY strict with form. Squats had to go ass to ankles to get green lights.
For those bodybuilders out there that have never been to a powerlifting meet check one out. Great lifters and athletes at these events.
