I see more people tear their bicep with this movement. Can someone please explain to me why this movement is needed? Why is this exercise even being performed?

I think it is important that when you perform any sort of movement where the fulcrum is solid and does not move, you have to take extra care due to the stress.
It is effective for me, but I usually drop weight and perform more reps on preacher curls. I save the heavy stuff for barbell curls.

Do you think the straightbar is hard on your wrists? Or should you do them anyway? My wrists usually hurt doing them, that's why I ask. (I use the curl bar)
thx
Thanks. I HATE preacher curls. Once your arms extend beyond that 90 degree point, it's just an accident waiting to happen...PHIL HERNON said:Hand supinated that far is not natural. IF you ever watch someone curl with a straight bar, their wrists are TRYING REALLY HARD to pronate back. I would never put my wrists in that position. It is uncomfortable just with no weight, holding the wrists like that. A natural hand position is more like a hammer curl.

wow thats the same thing jay cutler said to me last weekend about squats, he said he rarely ever goes over 405 on squats and i kinda laughed like no way, and he ask me what i did and i said i did 545 for 10 reps the day before and i said my knees hurt like hell, and then he laughed and said then why do you do that much weight if your knees hurt, your knees should never hurt during squats! so ive switched up some things in my workout that jay suggested and damn i have been sore as hell all week! Wolfpack said:What about with a cambered bar? I can't do the straight bar for the reason you mentioned, it feels very uncomfortable just to grip it, so I don't do them. The question about the cambered bar is pertaining to doing them standing and not on a preacher bench.
