Now that the dust has settled from the most recent flurry of posts
relating to HRT / TRT, I thought now might be a good time to try
to quantify my own experience in terms of what is considered
meaningful to most bodybuilders, that is muscular size and weight.
The following in an attempt in that direction.
As I said in a earlier post, my opinion is that we all experience times
in our lives when growth occurs fairly rapidly. The first time being
when we start training, the second time is when we add a anabolic
substance. (The third time is when we add more, and a assortment
of anabolic substances, and perhaps yet another time when we add
insulin and growth hormones.)
My second (and final growth spurt) occurred in my early fifties when
I started on a doctor supervised testosterone replacement program,
my exposure to TRT coming about in a round about sort of way, rather
serendipitous in retrospect. I did not lay awake at night dreaming about
steroids and what it would do or not for me. I just had an opportunity
and I took advantage of it. It was totally unplanned.
Having never used any anabolic substances before, I can say without
qualification, that for me, on the dosages I am using, it was easily
worth 15 lbs of pure muscle. And maybe more as I'm leaner now than
when I started, but I feel comfortable committing to that number
because of my bodyweight, the mirror, a tape measure, and the way
my clothes fit.
So . . . how do I know it was TRT that was responsible for the results
you might ask? Well, when I started, I decided not to change anything
other than the addition of testosterone via intramuscular injection.
I made zero changes in my diet and no changes in workouts. It was
business as usual to the best of my knowledge.
Though hard as it was to resist the temptation not to go off the deep
end with diet and exercise, i.e., increasing protein, calories, workout
frequency, duration or intensity, I was really more interested in what
effect, if any, there would be and I did not what it tainted by my over
exuberance. And if I had changed things, anything, there would be no
way of knowing what was responsible for what. And by not changing
anything else besides the addition of testosterone, in my mind, it just
had to be that, the testosterone.
While the results might not be surprising to some people, it certainly was
a surprise to me, even after reading and witnessing other peoples
experiences. I feel I just showed up like I always did, worked out and ate
like I always did. Only this time I just grew. Not that I'm any great
physical specimen, but compared to what I was, I'm still amazed.
