Let me preface this thread by saying please do not ask anything training specific. Myself as well as many others here pay for phil's expertise and i doubt he would answer those type of questions anyway. Secondly if your just going to say something negative please do not post in this thread. i have a few questions i wanted to ask phil and thought maybe a couple of other guys might be thinking the same thing so i sent him a pm to see if i could ask publically and he agreed. its mainly BS stuff but thought it would be cool to know seeing as how phil has made it to the top ranks in this sport.
so ill get started.

Phil, first off thanks for taking the time to answer my questions here. When you first picked up weights what motivated you to do that?

When you were starting out who were you inspired by to bodybuild?

Who is your favorite bodybuilder of all time, besides me?

At what point did you realize you had what it takes to turn pro and be competitive at it?

have there been any other sports you have been passionate about, and what led you away from those into bodybuilding?

do these pants make me look fat?

what was the worst time you screwed up a diet or prep for a show?

what other pro's not on this board did you become friends with during your competitive career and how did they influence your training and dieting?

Phil,

When you type to me in all red letters, are you REALLY mad at me, or just trying to get my attention? ;)

Thanks!

Phil, first off thanks for taking the time to answer my questions here. When you first picked up weights what motivated you to do that? Hi T.......I had allergies as a child and could not go outside.....so my father bought me a weight set after I saw Sergio Oliva on the show "to tell the truth".

When you were starting out who were you inspired by to bodybuild? Sergio Oliva...........it was funny because I thought I was muscular at 10 years old until I saw him and got jealous, ahhahha

Who is your favorite bodybuilder of all time, besides me? Haaaa....Ronnie Coleman

At what point did you realize you had what it takes to turn pro and be competitive at it? When I won the Ironman in 1989

have there been any other sports you have been passionate about, and what led you away from those into bodybuilding? Tennis, football.......I felt like I needed to look better to feel better.........I was one of many on the football team........plus I hated getting beat up each game.

what was the worst time you screwed up a diet or prep for a show? Actually never.........but I did wake up in a sweat after dreaming about eating a huge cookie....I was pised until I knew it was just a dream.

what other pro's not on this board did you become friends with during your competitive career and how did they influence your training and dieting?

Flex and I were always kind of close.....we lived miles apart. Edgar Fletcher was my only other friend I suppose......Rich Gaspari later on........of course Emeric Delczeg.Emeric I consider my best friend in or out of bodybuilding.

Awesome Phil.

If you could be a Pro at any other sport what would it be?

when you won the ironman in 89 did you go into the show knowing you were going to win, or was there another competitor you were worried about? and who?

how did you meet Emeric?

ok all the following foods have the perfect macro profile(imagine). which one do you eat....lasagne, pizza, cheese cake, cookies, sushi, tacobell(yup the whole menu)?

Im sure alot of people want to know this one....When did you find LBA's?

Did you ever have a trainer?

favorite piece of gym equipment?

body part you least like training?

Hows your daughter doing?

Did you ever have a trainer? Jon Olsen....still do..he is the best. Now he is into voice overs in Los Angeles.......he is the new voice of Mickey Mouse......I think I can say that now....it was asecret for a while.......only 4 others have been the official voice and now it is Jon. John wrote the OTS journals back for Bulgarian Burst systems.

I have 3......Jessica 18, Jordan 14, Pamela 8 months.........all doing well. Jessica is going to Fresno ST.....Jordan is number 1 in the state of California in the high jump in pre high school, Google (Jordan Hernon) ........Pamela loves cartoons.

How much has Jon Olsen influenced you, and your training/diet praticies?

What do you consider your strongest and weakest bodypart?

What was your favorite show you competed in?

that micky mouse thing is relly cool...eventually youll be able to tell pamela you know mickey.

who was the most muscular person you were ever on stage with?

please put these in order....mass, symmetry, conditioning, shape(actual shape of a muscle, like my biceps dont round off when relaxed but peak nice when flexed).

was there a target bf% you tried to maintain in the off season?

anything really funny ever happen back stage at a major show?

Kevin Levrone ate a pizza that Paul Dillet had delivered while he was posing......

If you were 18 again, what would you change about a decision that you made in your life if you could?

What you still have turned pro?

during your competive time (amature and pro) what was the most weight you had to loose for a show?

after you turned pro, how much did you stray away from your stage weight in the offseason? 20-30lbs? more? or less?

Phil i just want to thank you for taking the time to do this. Im sure you have some other things to get done today besides answer every question i can think of. so ill leave it at this....i hope everyone enjoyed having a look into the brain of one of the greatest physiques to hit a bodybuilding stage. Its nice to see that someone with that level of success didnt let it all go to his head and is a down to earth nice guy. for me this was an awesome opportunity, like a highschool quarterback getting sit down and talk to Joe Montana. its one of the things that makes Professionalmuscle really the best site out there for bodybuilders at any level. Thanks again Phil.

A few I have always wondered.

1. Ballpark figure of the amount of money earned in you're Pro/Amateur bodybuilding career counting sponsorships, endorsements, purses.
2. You're most lucrative sponsorship, endorsement, purse.

Thanks Phil and I hope it doesn't come off as nosey.

1 more

Was it true you were once a nationaly ranked Tennis player?

Good......

during your competive time (amature and pro) what was the most weight you had to loose for a show?

after you turned pro, how much did you stray away from your stage weight in the offseason? 20-30lbs? more? or less?

I actually gained weight up to a show......I was about 20 pounds under contest weight.
