I have a cardiologist telling me that I have high creatine levels in my kidneys but I also hear this comes from bodybuilding due to muscle breakdown. I was diagnosed with C.H.F. but since then I have lost over 30 lbs. on a strict bodybuilding regime and diet. Does anyone know anything about higher protein levels in the kidneys? Anything would help I have 3 different doctors with 3 different opinons sometimes the medical profession baffals me.
Thanks everone

Wow, congestive heart failure. What is your ejection fraction at? Mine is at 24%. If your heart is in CHF you really have to watch what youre doing in the gym. If you push it too hard you could kill yourself, I almost did. I certainly hope youre not taking any AAS.
As far as the creatine levels, I had really high levels too when I was first tested after my heart attack. The levels came down once I stopped lifting. Another thing that can raise that is taking creatine powder.

Sorry, couldn't resist....

creatine powders can ACTUALLY raise your creatine levels? WOW.

SORRY again, I couldn't stop myself.

Actually it is creatinine not creatine that topfuel is referring to I believe(many people mistake the 2 because when spoken quickly they sound the same).

Good call.

But a given an amount creatine does spontaneously convert to creatine in the body (this is normal and is a regular metabolic process). I've seen people taking creatine, from shadowing a doctor, get their results back with high creatinine and then are diagnosed with kidney dysfunction. And the sad thing is the guy didn't even know he was consuming creatine, because he was drinking a weight gainer loaded with stuff and he wasn't highly informed on the ingredients. But luckily the doctor saw other levels weren't characteristic of kidney dysfunction, for example: urea nitrogen.

Top, I have CHF also and my numbers are not elevated. I get bloodwork four times a year, two from Cardiologist and two from my TRT.

Training

I am currently working out 5 days a week. Chest on Monday, Back on Tuesday, Legs on Wednesday, Shoulders on Thursdayand Arms on Friday. I also work the treadmill each one of those days I am working out. Would this be considered to much at this point? I have lost alot of weight not only to this training regime but I also eat nothing but whole foods. Anyone out there have any suggestions?
Let me know,

I have a similar problem, tested high for liver and kidney enzymes and stuff so i decreased protein consumption and increased water and it stabilised

be careful with ur health though

The more muscular you are the higher your creatine levels are probably gona be. Creatine provides your muscles with energy to workout. But high creatine levels are also a sign that your kidneys are have some issues. But your issues could be all the fluids backing up around the sac of your heart. All this excess fluid could be making your kidneys work overtime. Things like high blood pressure, excess fluid, are you taking any diuretics like lasix to control this also your salt intake etc.

You might also want to consider workingout less days per week and hitting two body parts per workout. Take care with the right drugs and diet and workout program you can feel and have a pretty normal life. Winter times also we see alot of chf patients having some troubles. Swelling in legs extremeties. But you seem to be in alot better position due to having your diet under control and workout lifestyle. MM

As a healthcare worker in a hospital for years now-all i can say-that sums it up pretty much...that,and some $$$$ reasons.

Damn bro, sorry to her this. What do you think was the cause? Is there a family history of cardiac ailments? I'm 47 and have a history of AAS use so recently I had everything tested. Luckily I'm OK apart fro some hypogonadism. Really sorry to hear of your status man.

Thanks

I really appreciate the feedback since the doctors I have don't workout and as I suspect don't have a clue to how training affects the body. I like the idea of putting together the workouts and training less days a week but like all bodybuilders it will take alot to do that since mentally I will feel like I am not doing enough. I am taking Lasix and I do watch my sodium intake. The only sodium is that which comes natually in some whole foods.
Thanks again,

this is what I spoke of. It can make those levels high on a blood test.

YOu can read all about it as the event happened at this link http://www.professionalmuscle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37736

Basically what happend is I had a very large blood clot form in my right coronary artery while I was doing squats. Doctors cant say for sure why it formed. When they did my angiogram all of the arteries in my heart were wide open and no plaque buildup was seen anywhere. Once they cleared the clot the doc wanted to put in a stent to be safe but they didnt have one large enough to fit the artery. They think the steriods caused my blood to be hypercoagulable, but there is no way to really prove this hypothesis in my case. It has been clinically shown though that steriods can make your blood clot more easily like this, just noway to really prove that it happend in my case. I think bodybuilders out there are having this happen, but it almost always happens in a deep vein in the body and can then go to the lungs where it lodges. Quite rare to have it happn in a coronary artery I think. My Uncle did just do an autopsy, hes a coroner, on a guy that was 32 years old and died of a clot just like mine. I asked him if the subject was on steroids and all he could say was he didnt look like it. They never tested his body for it.

Thank you Maldorf. This is great information since I have just started my path back to good health. The CHF I was diagnosed with happened approx. 4 weeks ago and I am doing everthing to fight it. All the information i can get is crucial to my success in a long and healthy life. I can't thank everyone enough here that has helped me with this but to say Professional Muscle has the best board and members one could ask for.

I really am sorry to hear about your problem and I am sure AAS is at least part of the problem. Blood clots like you descibe do happen in guys in their 30's who have never touched AAS. I knew a guy mid 30's got a clot traveled to his heart and died.

Do you think taking Asprin daily would have helped or where you already taking asprin?

I was taking an adult aspirin a day, and had been for a month or more before it happend to it did nothing for me. this is not to say that taking an aspirin a day doesnt help though, just that it didnt help me.
