Rub or Don’t Rub after intramuscular injection?

Ok guys,

Quick question for some gurus. A friend on mine from the gym told me today not to rub after taking any intramuscular steroid injection. He said that a nurse told him that rubbing could separate the oil post injection and possible cause an absence because the oil would be pushed around and not able to be absorbed.

I have personally been involved with this stuff for 7 years now and have never heard this.

What’s your take?

I believe the exact opposite to be true. I always rub after im injection to help disperse the oil into the muscle.

^^Agreed. Rubbing post IM injections is beneficial to spread out the oil and stimulate blood flow to help with absorption.

im a nurse and i have never heard that. I think your friend heard wrong, rubbing is fine.

Yes do not just let the injection sit.

I have 2 methods that work well for me.
1) Electric heated back massager, has a long arm for shoulder or glute injections, seem's to be more powerfull then my hand or some one elses.
2) use a gripped bar of soap in a hot shower to rub the spot out. (obviously this can only be done if you end up in the shower post inj.

what about people who never have a shower ?

No seriously, I always massage after injections too

I found I got a better test response from rubbing one out, injecting, then REALLY rubbing one out afterwards myself.

Really? More damage than having a hard golfball like bolus of oil sat in your muscle for days?
