Grapeseed Oil
The biggest health benefit of Grapeseed Oil is Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins. OPC's as they are called are naturally occuring stubstances present in a variety of food and botanical sources. They are unique phytochemicals called flavanoids that have powerful antioxidant properties. OPC's are highly water soluble so the body is able to absorb them rapidly. Clinical tests suggest that OPC's may be 50 times more potent than vitamin E and 20 times more potent than vitamin C in terms of bioavailible antioxidant activity. What's more, OPC's work with the anti-oxidant glutathione to recycle and restore oxidized vitamin C thus increasing the vitamins effectiveness. Because they are able to cross the blood-brain barrier, OPC's can protect the brain and spinal nerves against free radical damage. In addition to their antioxidant activity, OPC's protect the liver, they repair and strengthen connective tissue, including that of the cardiovascular system; and they support the immune system and slow aging. They also moderate allergic and inflammatory responses by reducing histamine production.
Of the many sources of essential fatty acids, grape seed oil is the highest in linoleic acid and among the lowest in saturated fats. Unlike most other oils it can be heated up to 425 degrees F without producing dangerous and carcinogenic free radicals.
