I know that this is a BBing board but I am the worlds Biggest Suns fan and we are getting Shaq from the Heat. This proves that the Suns are gunning for the title this year. I think this could be the difference for us this year. If we don't win this year we are in trouble because Shaq doesn't have many miles left.

GO SUNS!!!

sorry to break it to you bro but shaq is done for, he hasn't done well at all with the heat this season and i don't think he will be any better next season....he did his thing with the Lakers (my team, which is about to go to the finals and win this year) and after that he had a couple of good seasons and thats it.

He's out of shape and washed up. Not to piss in your cheerios, but it takes him 2 minutes to get up and down the court. He is also in foul trouble in every game. You get little guards like Tony Parker driving the lane and constantly challenging him and he'll be sitting with 4 fouls in the 3rd quarter of every game. He needs to find a treadmill and drop 50-60 lbs to be effective. Get his ass in shape Dusty!!!

IMO...horrible trade by the suns. they got an over-the-hill big man who's WAY outta shape and injury prone because of his size and age...and lost shawn marion, a huge part of their team.

sorry Dusty...but im pretty sure the CELTICS are going all the way this year!! :D :D

I agree....Shaq can barely run anymore. Every year he misses more and more games. I'm glad he's out west again though, it was weird seeing him in Miami.

First off come on Jawbreaker..you can't swear in my thread.:D And you said Tony Parker which is one of the worst words on the planet. Second I agree that he has little to offer compaired to before but what he has is what we need. I'm thinking we just use him to keep Stat out of foul trouble during our run to this years championship. All these years of almost winning I just need the God's of basketball to throw me a bone.

the dominant big man in the NBA is now kevin garnett...

oh wait...what team is he on?!? :p

I like the Suns, always have. I'm a Bulls fan, I remember back in the late 80's early 90's when the Bulls would ALWAYS lose to KJ and the Suns. I hated KJ, the guy would go barreling down the lane with reckless abandon and get fouls all night long. Throw in Tom Chambers, Marjerle later on and Barkley...they always played a fun brand of basketball. I'm just afraid Shaq will ruin their style and take away from who the Suns are. I hope it works, it would make for a fun matchup, Celtics-Suns if KG stays healthy. I just can't see it happening. Get Shaq on the program you have Rob Roy on and he'll by flying up and down the court, I'm concerned anything short of that will have him on the bench either in foul trouble or in a $20K suit.

Terrible move, Dusty!
The Suns will close their window of opportunity with Nash if they execute this trade.
Let's face it, the Lakers are my boys, and with the addition of Gasol and emergence of Bynum, the Suns have fallen by the wayside.
Within 2 years, Bynum will be the new Shaq of the 90's.

Dusty

If you look at all the posts about this thread there is not one that has anything good to say about oneal,in his prime he was one of the greats but his time is way gone not a good trade for the suns

I agree that they could have gotten someone better, but Marion has been a cancer in that locker room of late. They needed to do something to move him. Not sure how much shaq will help, but lets hope Amare enjoys his new freedom from guarding the other team's center and goes off. I hear ya Dusty.....GO SUNS.

Maybe you guys misunderstood the initial thread. I think that the reason that PHX is picking up Shaq is to try to get past Bynum and the Lakers this season. That being said if we deal Marion I will be pissed because we will be losing a guy who has done it all in PHX and is just getting better for a guy who's best years are behind him that can't possibly keep up with our high paced play. What we needed was a post player and Shaq is the guy we have the ability to get this season. We should have made a move in the off season for KG but instead we let the Celts get him and create what looks like the beginning of a dynasty. If the Suns ever want to start winning championships like they are capable of they will start calling me during the offseason as I am the most educated decision maker for them who has never played the game.

D

I feel Shaq does not make the Phoenix game better, he changes the game, disrupts salary cap. That said he is a very impressive specimen and person.

Pekkerwood

LMAO Dusty. Aren't we all better GM's than the one in place of our favorite team? I don't know that KG was the answer either for you guys. He is not a back to the basket guy. He gets put backs and hits jumpers as well as running the floor. His offensive game is Amare's but with a jumper...his worth is really on the defensive end. I'm not sure Shaq has what it takes to play with the younger big men anymore...time will tell. Interesting story line at least.

No, not many miles left at all for Shaq, he's been hurt and played terrible this year so far. Shaq or no Shaq, they won't get past the Lakers or San Antonio.

Here's a related question: About a month ago, the NBA ruled that Miami and Atlanta had to replay 51 seconds of a game Atlanta won because the officials fouled Shaq out one foul early.

What are they going to do about that game now?

It seems funny to me that the Lakers have yet to beat the Suns in the playoffs (in recent years at least), yet they are already basically saying they are changing their whole team because they think they cannot get past the Lakers.
Remember during the Lakers three-peat, every team was trying to get a big man to be able to take on Shaq and have any chance at dethroning the Lakers.
Now the Suns get Shaq to take on our new golden boy Bynum.
As a Laker Lifer, starting with the Gasol acquisition and the Shaq trade, this has been the best week for Laker fans since the Malone-Payton acquisition.:D

I am a diehard celtics fan and this trade worries me.

I think like Dusty does in this in that now the Suns have someone who can do battle with Gasol/Bynum and Duncan.

If you really look at Shaq's numbers and average out the last couple years at the same minutes per game as his glory years he is still pretty close to the same Shaq as old (down a slight bit).....he is only playing 28 minutes now compared to 38-40 minutes years ago.

The Suns tried their way for a number of years and it was close but no cigar....as hard as this was to make this trade i think it gives them greater hope.

I liked the Garnett Perkins Stoudamire Marion matchup alot more than I like the Garnett Perkins Stoudamire Shaq matchup

Especially if Shaq decides to show he still has the MDE in him during the playoffs just to kick it in the face of all that have been bagging on him

I think it looks great for the Suns on paper, but I don't think that even if he tries his hardest he can bring back MDE, DC.
I think the biggest problem for the Suns will be that in all of his years, even this season, everyone knows that Shaq only plays defense well if he is getting plenty of touches offensively. Otherwise, he complains.
The Suns are openly stating that they really want his defense over his offense, so I don't see how Big Aristotle can be happy playing 2nd fiddle to Stoudemire.

Note: I say these things only because it is sad to see what has happened over the last year to the Diesel's overall ablility.
I will always be grateful to Shaq for the years he gave us in LA, arguably they will go down as his best years in the game.
The Laker fans are finally getting rewarded for the patience we had in choosing Kobe to stay and for Shaq to go, knowing that in the long run it would be more beneficial than in the short term.

Now Kobe gets to have his chance for the ultimate redemption, getting MVP honors and tossing Shaq out of the playoffs.
( In a perfect world, of course).

Who cares, two cellar dwellars going nowhere.
