Shoulder Rehab Suggestions??

I jacked up my right shoulder a couple months back doing flat bench press. I thought I would give it a chance to heal up on it's own before I went to the doctor.

After two months is it safe to assume that it won't just go away? Should I just bite the bullet and go to the doctor? Is there a protocol of "rehab" movements that I can start doing to help it heal?

Need a diagnosis 1st. Some movements will be contraindicated with one diagnosis but will help another diagnosis. Gotta figure out the problem before you can figure out the solution...

Go to the doc and find out whats wrong. You could end up making it worse trying to rehab it without knowing what is wrong.

Thanks guys, not what I wanted to hear, but hey, thats life. Will try to get in for an xray soon.

Hey Klown. I had total shoulder reconstruction back in 2000. I know what shoulder problems feel like. I have 6 screws in my left shoulder. I dislocated my shoulder 6 times and then i decided to go to the doctor. After the first dislocation, i did my own rehab and felt fine! I felt 100% and there were no issues. But then it came out again, and again, and again, and again,....... I would go to the doc and get a proper diagnosis and then you can decide your future. The shoulder is a very tender and sensitive area. Do yourself a favor and treat it properly!!!!!

Plus x-ray is no good. Go get an MRI!!! An MRI will tell you every thing and an x-ray is usually only good for bones.

Agreed

Go to an orthopedic doctor. Get the problem specifically identified. Then you'll know exactly what you're dealing with.

It's better if you know exactly what it is.....you could make it worse. The doc will be able to rule out certain things. The ingredient in Alieve is really good Naxo something. Thats what my doc gave me but he ruled out torn rotar cuff, put me on the medication, and sent me for some rehab.

Definately go to a doctor and get a MRI. I tore my rotator cuff in June bench pressing, had surgery in July. Still some pain, for your sake I hope it's just a strain and not a tear.

Just go to your main doc and get a referral to a PT, they can assess via range of motion and what not if you need to be referred to a specialist for an MRI, X-ray, or what have you.

At least this is the route I did, second week of PT right now, since Im too cheap to go to a specialist and dont want to pay for a MRI. Though mine had to do with imbalances which in turn put more stress on the anterior shoulder tendons.

Im pretty sure when I had rotator cuff surgery about 10 years ago I took the same route. PT didnt do a thing so I went to a specialist who recommended surgery.

Shoulder injuries are the worst. I coudnt raise my arm above my shoulder for years and limited most pressing movements even after long layoffs. I still cant sleep on my side (due to shoulder pain). I initially tore my rotator cuff and never had the problem fixed. Dont be like me, get an MRI. Good luck:)
