I've been gaining weight very steadily by drinking three or four of these in addition to regular meals. I'm 6 ft. tall and have gone from 220 to 245 in 5 months. Everything is pretty cheap and easy to get at any grocery store:
1 cup nonfat milk
1 cup nonfat plain yogurt
1 cup pasteurized egg whites
1 scoop whey protein (chocolate)
It tastes good and provides about 60 grams of protein. I'm not a nutritional expert, but I figure I'm getting 3 excellent proteins, plus the yogurt is suppose to be good for the digestive tract.
I could buy the egg whites by the gallon through mail-order and prob. save a little money, but they're avail. right in the egg section in quart cartons for about $4.00 and the convenience is worth the extra I might be paying.
I've also found, that by drinking only one scoop of the whey powder I'm not having the gas problem I previously had with 2-3 scoops. As long as I've kept the egg whites to a cup or less, no gas there either.
That's my homemade protein shake, for what it is worth.
