Steroids and the Immune System

A google search, even a deep, careful google search doesn't provide much information. The same watered down information in a few repetitive texts.

I know the general view is that steroids cause an immune system crash.

I also know that steroids can be very successfully used to treat AIDS.

In my layman's view, that's a bit of a contradiction.

What do you know about it?

For the sake of the immune system Nazis gave there solidiers test in the 40's, and Anavar was first prescribed for HIV to strengthen the immune system, some times so are test, deca and even winstrol.

I swear I once read on http://www.mesomorphosis.com/ that estrogens were very important for immune function and that total supression of estrogen (i.e. letrozole) would lower the immune response. Can't seem to find it now...

These are the few things I do know about this subject.

The reason steroids are given to HIV patients and don't forget the Ethiopians in impoverished areas whereas they are dying of protein deficiencies and other parts of the world, they all have one thing in common 'Muscle Wasting Diseases' and the steroids are used to save their lives and repair their bodies. OMG did they say steroids save lives by rebuilding their muscle? HOLY FREAKING SHIT! The fact is... the more muscle you have on your body the less your brain and other organs have to worry about when repairing itself from environmental damage. The body is stronger and can concentrate on other important things.

The immune system... well that's still up for debate actually! But there was a study done in the late 80's trying to figure out why steroid users suffer less colds. They were still studying the immune system connection so it could not be included in the report... but what they did find is something I've done for YEARS because of sleep problems. I have problems sleeping so I use white noise... a fan on my face! Simple lol it's constant, windy, turns off my brain cause my attention is on the fan and I fade away. I rarely ever get a cold and found out it's because the fan dries up the mucous membranes in the nasal passages and there is nothing for cold virus's to live on... they need them moist to thrive. TA DA! the study on Steroids users showed that steroids dry up the mucous membranes leaving nothing for the little bugs to thrive on.

all i know is i've been on without a break for a couple years and the last time i got sick was over a year ago. People all around me get sick all the time....but not me.

I've also done the fan trick for as long as i can remember because i've very thermogenic and it cools me down...its good to hear it has a secondary purpose.

Tell you what steroids can do though.

After three days and a half spent at over 38 degrees fever, with maybe 10-15 spikes a day when it would reach 39-39.5, I have lost a grand total of 1 kg bodyweight.

I have tinitis (sp) so my ears ring like crazy when i sleep. (can't help it, 1500+ watts in my car need to be used sometimes) Also, my head is always boiling, even though my body gets cold. I could never live without a fan, but sometimes it drys me out and I wake up with a sore throat. drinking milk before bedtime usually stops that though.
