Strange Exercises & Fatbodys.....

I just got done doing my back workout. I have incorporated the rack deadlifts that I picked up the other day here on the board. Excellent exercise. Anyway, Im about finished with my workout and I see this short pear shaped fucker doing this extremely elaborate ab/core exercise with one of those big inflated balls. I am not exactly sure if I can even explain it. The dude was laying on his back with his legs locked and the ball between his feet. It appeared as though he was attempting a jacknife type maneuver with some strange twisting movements and random pelvic thrusts. This exercise was stupid and it annoyed me. What is the problem with sticking to the basics. Over the years I have seen some really dumb exercises performed in the gym, techniques that have clearly been either made up on the spot or modified by the individual for some strange reason. And in everycase the dude doing the shit is either a pearshaped fatbody, or an extremely skinny pussy with the invisible lat syndrome. I cant for the life of me figure out why people insist on ignoring the basics of diet and exercise that have stood the test of time, and instead cook up there own random garbage.

here, here

Well articulated and true! Even worse, I see "professional" trainers incorporating, should I say, 'unique' exercises for their seemingly, untrained clients. Kinda sucks we can't or shouldn't just say, "What the fuck are you doing....dumbass?" and shake our heads in disbelief. Although, I have to admit, the gym sometimes lacks excitement and these folks do provide some entertainment from time to time.

To think of it, let's let them keep their silly equipment and exercises. I like to strut my 'classic', built with blood and guts, hard work and dedication physique- it's is my personal testimony. The lat-lunge-pull-squat #7 does not quite size up to my deadlift!

I think a a lot of the "fancy" exercises are invented by trainers as a way to justify charging people $40/hr by doing an exercise so complex that it requires a trainer just to do it. If a trainer told someone to do 5 sets of 5 of bench, squats, deads ect, they would be out of buisness.

My opinion.

Let me start by saying that, I'm a professional in this industry. It completely sickens me to see another trainer instructing a client to perform some of these aweful excersises. First, I'm concerned for thier well being. Second, thier results even if they are not a client of mine. It's not about trying to reinvent the wheel. For example i recently witnessed a trainer instructing "Mrs. Jones" (230lbs.,5'1",38%b.f.) to stand one foot on a dumbell (like he was Mr. Myagi instructing the crane kick) while doing a single leg squat with dumbbells in her hands. Safety hazard? Maybe. Don't get me wrong I am well versed in core and functional training, but there is a time and place for it and this was definately not one of them. My God! With the dumbells in her hands. No way to catch own fall! In fact she'd probably be looking to replace her grill just there after. Let's just say the ankle rolled. Broken ankle with ligament and tendon damage for sure. Major reconstruction!
uhhh. Sorry. Venting.
My opinion is that these trainers are just not natural leaders so they are so they are not strong enough to lead the client through the pain zone. We all know that breaking point. Can you motivate through it?
No Results=No Clients
No Clients=No Money
So, they fake thier way through it by making up rediculous exercise after exercise to get paid.

AMEN.

YEP, YOU NEVER SEE PEOPLE YOU'D WANT TO LOOK LIKE DOING ANY OF THESE MOVEMENTS.

ARE YOU TELLING ME A 300LB DEFENSIVE LINEMAN DOESN'T HAVE 'CORE' STRENGTH? HMMM...AND YOU DON'T ANY OF THEM HUMPING A BLUE BALL EITHER.

THAT STORY ABOUT THE WOMAN ROLLING HER ANKLE PISSES ME OFF. LOT OF 'TRAINERS' OUT THERE SUCK.

i always say if you want core strength then deadlift and squat and hit heavy ball crunches with weight on upper chest twice per week...not all those gay exercises. they are worthless!!!!

I think it's scary. a few months ago one of the trainers had this woman doing squats while standing on a ball. It wasn't the big ones, maybe the size of a basketball, and I was just waiting for her to fall off and break her neck or snap an ankle in half.

Its crazy because the trainer kept saying how good of a job she's doing, and I just wanted to walk over to her and tell her to save her money before he kills her or paralyzes her by doing these stupid fuckin exercises.

it's only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt doing squats on a goddamn ball.
