Texans' Cushing blames positive drug test on overtraining

Cushing is suspended for the first four games this season after testing positive last September for HCG, a drug on the league's banned substance list. Cushing says he never took the drug, which can be used to restart testosterone production after a steroid cycle, and has no idea how it got into his body.

Cushing worked out with his team on Monday morning. He says doctors have told him that the failed drug test resulted from "overtrained athlete syndrome," a condition that he says can trigger hormonal spikes.

Texans owner Bob McNair flew to New York on Monday to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in hopes of getting Cushing's punishment reduced. The league denied Cushing's appeal of the suspension in February.

We're just pulling out every trick in the book. It's obvious he used it. It's obvious a huge majority, as in 80% if not more, of the NFL uses it, too. Going to college and living on the same floor with these athletes it's absurd. These guys run gear like there's no tommorow and they are my age.

Brian Cushing was actually pretty big when he went to USC. That picture has to be after a lay off or a surgery. But I'm not saying he doesn't use AAS... I've known many players to use it. But I've also known several genetic freaks of about every race who never touched the stuff...

Just to make it clear that isnt a before and after...i believe he was coming back from an injury and thats why he was so small...probably hadnt been lifting
