I was talking with a guy in the gym today. He says 2-3 weeks out, he blasts every muscle every day. When he gets to one week out, he no longer works legs, but still works every thing else until 2 days before contest. Anybody else do this? What would be the reason for it?

He said it helps him get dry, but also he puts on some muscle at the end. Is this possible?

I doubt the last 2 weeks or 10 days out from a competition he will be putting on anymore muscle, it is all about holding condition and muscle at that point, of course if he on schedule or a bit ahead of schedule. This should be a time glide into the show, if you have properly prepared yourself...it is okay to train, but no need to stress the last week about the last couple workouts, you should be ready to do it by then with the water, carb manipulation being the focus the last week or couple of days.

I think you are looking too into his advice. On paper explained like that, it doesn't make sense. Of course, guys may increase rep range and total sets the last few weeks out. Especially if they are trying to deplete and replenish glycogen supplies at the end to "fill out" the muscles. But no athlete is really putting on muscle at 2-3 weeks. Also to get "dry" typically you are never going to depend on training to lose water for your peak week.

the only thing that kinda makes sense to me is that he is trying to get as glycogen depleted as possible then filling out with carbs the last 2 days before his show.

Sounds like an attempt to deplete. No reason to do this while promoting catabolism, CNS over-stimulation etc. Simply deplete with carbohydrate reduction and cardio. If you are coming in on schedule, such practices shouldn't be necessary

gonna take a lot longer than 2 days to fill out if thats for depleting.

Anything is possible... He most likely means putting on some mass and that comes when the carbs start flowing in... not actually adding new muscle.. and it may help him look better by doing that..alot of people do full body workouts a few days before carbing up.... and you can fill out in 2 days if you take something that assist in doing that which works great....:D

Everybody got there own little thing of bullshit to do b4 contest. I know some who really dont do shit and just train like normal and come in fine. There is no magical formula for peaking other than knowing how you personally respond to nutrition and training.
