Well this is a situation, that has been bothering me for a while, but now is starting to really be a problem. My left pec is larger, than my right pec. It stems from a ten year job, were I unconsciously put constant tension on the left side of my chest. It's been noticable, for a while, but now it's starting to stand out like a soar thumb, when I wear a T-shirt I look a little uneven. It's mainly the upper, outer area of the pec. I don't feel any difference in strength, and my right pec is well developed, just not as much as the left. It sucks, because my chest is one of my stronger bodyparts. Just wondering if there were any protocals for a situation like this. I'm willing to try just about anything at this point. Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks guy's:)

if it were me i would probably only train the one side in the pec deck machine, a little atrophy of one side, and a little building of the other may give you what you want.not sure what other exercises you could do for just the one side other than pec deck though?

Any of these symptoms

Any other symtoms like occasional stiff neck, pain in your traps with maybe, tightness, stiffness, with knotts in your traps and upper shoulders?

I have the same problem bro, it sucks!

I had that a couple of times. All I did was use lighter weight, in the dominat area, and normal training weight, for the weaker. Seemed to even them out. My traps are notorious for getting out of whack. Peace!

Hell yea bro, wicked knots under my left shoulder blade, and trap area! Thanks for the info guy's. I've actually been doing one arm cable's, and trying to mentaly focus on the right side of my body, when I do normal chest movements. Thanks again guy's!

I think he was trying to see if you have any nerve damage that would be responsible for the difference in size but you say that it hurts on your left and the left is the side that is bigger? If you had nerve damage, it would hurt on the side that is smaller. Dont have the pain on your right side?

i've got all that pain right now too. my left trap is all inflamed, probably a pinched nerve. woke up with it over a week ago. been to the chiropractor twice. i sleep some on my stomach and she says that causes me problems due to the twisting of the neck and spine...

Okay

You probably have a disc problem within your cervical spine. Sadly you can do all of the one arm movements in the world but unless the problem is fixed then it will only get worse.

What has happened?

Some type of impingment has incurred within on of your cervical discs (maybe between C5-C7) This impingment can range anywhere from a little out of line to worse case ruptered disc. The impingment has effected nerves, the path of those nerves (beginning from the disc) to the ultimate destination the traps and pectoralis major has been effective, not firing on all cylinders if you will. That nerve pathway has died, this is causeing the atrophy, So until the problem is corrected that nerve pathway will not regenerate. In some cases the problem fixes itself in others like a ruptured disc, surgery is required. Once everything is working properly, nerves usually regenerate at the rate of 1 inch per month. So the distance from your neck down your arm, pec, etc... is usually about 12-13 inches, so 12 to 13 months to fully recover.

What do you do?
See a chiropractor that has a good reputation for dealing with athletes. Very important do your research here. They will understand your problem and if not to severe be able to work it back in shape. A bad chiropractor can actually injur you worse so they should prescribe an MRI right from the beginning. From the MRI they will know if the problem is in their league or they need to pass you on to a neaurologist for cervical spine surgery.

What not to do?

Stop lifting weights now!!!..........This is an attempt to scare you...........This is your neck we are talking about. If you make this injury worse by lifting, there is a possibility of paralysis. That means everything in that pathway from the neck down not working anymore. It is up to you but I would highly recommend you fix the problem before you start worrying about the rebuilding.

Impingement on what is called the brachial plexus. These nerves innervate the upper limb.
