weighted dips

since there are alot bigger boys here than me...how many do these, and how much weight can u pile on..

my gym only has a 120lb db, and i need more... i was thinking of throwing my backpack on and putting plates in there, then the DB on the belt?
or maybe the belt can take 3x 45lb plates, then 10's or 25>>??

ideas?

At one point I was doing heavy (for me) weighted dips.

I just bought a weighted dip belt... LOL --- obviously the easiest choice and used my backpack as well.

My heaviest was 2 - 45's on the belt and 2 - 25's and 1 - 10 plate in my backpack. I could get 6 to 10 reps.

I actually found it really easy to get to this weight by using a weight vest the gym had. Worked out pretty good.

I would also suggest doing heavy shrugs, too.

My experience has been that I'm much stronger and steadier on the dips if the traps are strong, and that I'm much less likely to work the hell out of my shuolder joints.

Damn good point, Dad. What really helped me was the Lee Haney behind the back smith machine shrugs.
 
the belt at my gym holds 4-45's i can only get 2-3 thou.
 
Just use 45lbs plates bro, those belts can hold it. I've thrown 3 plates on a belt plenty of times, and I've seen people put 4 plates too. Your better off using plates than DB's IMO
 
I'm having a hard time picturing dipping with a DB hanging from the belt. It seems like the chain could come undone and drop the DB.

I do two plates for about 10 reps.
 
My gym has a belt with a chain hanging from it. I'm pretty sure it will hold at least 4 plates. I've only gotten to 3, but I've seen someone throw four on there. I too think that a dumbell would be a pain in the ass hanging from a belt. You're better off going with your backpack idea, if you can't use plates.
 
Plates on a chain! I hate those motherf*cking PLATES!
 
If you have powerlifting chains you can hang those over your neck too. Puts the stress a little more on your chest and front delts as it pulls you more forward than weight hanging from a belt does.
 
Do these last in your workout. It also depends on how much YOU weight. I'm in the 270's, and I usually work my way up to an 80lb dumbell for 10-12 reps. I'm pre-exhausted, and my reps are strict and I focus on my triceps. Chin up, elbows in. For chest, it's chin tucked and elbows out. I've seen lots of people using ton's of weight for dips, but funnily my arms are twice their size and I use less weight. Remember all, IT'S NOT HOW MUCH WEIGHT YOU USE, BUT RATHER HOW YOU USE THE WEIGHT!!!!
