well.. i did it again.. 14 years ago i had a complete rupture of the femoris muscle where it attaches into the patellar tendon.. they attached it and it has never been 100 %.. but, i was still able to compete and lift fairly heavy with it.. my quads grow very easy so it ws not too bad..
well.. three nights ago i was training in my home gym ... legs you ask.. a battle with a 500 pound squat?..nope... chest.. i was doing flat db presses with the 105's and when finished i sat up with them.. i then stood up and started to put them on the db rack.. i had to kind of twist to one side to get them in the right spot..something i have done a thousand times.. as i bent down felt a pain.. in my upper femoris and kinda laterally.. i stopped and paused to see what happened.. it was like a cramp more than anything.. it then went away.. i walked it off and did not think much about it..
well my next set came up and i grabbed the 115's and placed them on my thights.. i immediately expelled my colon from the pain  .. i dropped the dumbells and started to press on my quads to try and locate the area of the pain.. it still was not bad.. so being the warrior..aaahh.. that is stupid ass that i am .. i grabbed them again and moved them to tyhe lower quad and the pain was not bad.. i finished the workout with no other interuptions and even stretched and did abs after chest.. well the next day when i woke up it was pretty swollen.. i looked like tom platz's brother.. but, with out the other leg.. i went to work and it seemed to work itself out.. it hurt a little when walking but i have had worse from a regular quad workout.. my job is standing and walking 8 hours a day and i am sure it did not help the situation.. i went home and put ice on it.. it was getting tight later that night.. the next day.. two days later the leg was bruised like a mutha.. the whole leg was getting purple..it looked like someone took a baseball bat to my quad.. i guess i couldnt ignore it now..
so today, i went to the doc.. he is a good friend of mine and he looked at it.. now, it is never good to here a doctor show amazement.. but, he says, "well lets take a look at it".. i pull my pants down and he says " lord.. what the hell happened?" i tell him that "i think i ruptured my quad again".. he says " what the hell were ya squatting?".. i tell him with acertain amount of embarrassment " i was dumbell pressing"... he busts out laughing.. "only you.." i could not argue..
so i go in for a mri. and he sends my home.. i get a call from him later that the femoris is torn and i have another tear in the medialis.. wtf?!?!? from putting a dumbell away.. now i am a puss on many levels.. spiders make me literally scream like a girl at a boy band concert.... if i dont get sex i curl up into a fetal position and cry.. i am a very complicated man.. i have issues.. but, to have another quad tear.. after all the abusive quad workouts over the years.. to have it ruture again doing chest.. hell why notruture doing wrist curls..? that would have bneen even more fitting..
so i go in tomorrow to see what they want to do.. since the tendon was not affected and it is just the muscle he does noty want to do surgery.. but, rehab and stretching ect.. i will see tommorrow and will proably get another opinion.. well.. i am going to go to bed.. before my testicles sling shot into my abdominal cavity by just walking up the stairs..

Damn LATS, sorry to hear that....You gotta take it easy on chest....maybe you should train legs more often to avoid injurying them...:D ....j/k

I hope the recovery isn't to bad for you.....

damn, sorry to hear but i can definitely relate.im not sure what your taking and all and really dont need to know but here is my situation.i used to do alot of injects in my quads.all in the upper and outer sections.reason im saying this is im sure i probably have some scar tissue in there.well during alot of gear i was taking some creatine and i found out that if you take too much for too long your body will begin to cramp.well,i was doing leg curls and partially tore my hamstring,it cramped and popped(hurt like hell afterward.)this i believe was from too much creatine usage.then maybe 6 months later im doing heavy leg press and i always got this uneasy feeling(while doing 28 plates)if i went just a little too low.it felt like this one section of my outer left quad just seemed to want to cramp,so i had to go nice and slow but this day i felt like superman and went a little too fast and tore this tiny piece of the outer quad.man it sounded like velcro ripping and the whole gym just stopped and looked over.i was still able to lock it out but when i went to get out of the leg press i couldnt bend my leg.that hurt for like 2 months.so i feel your pain a know that injuries suck bad.hope it heals soon.good luck.
later

injuries always suck

glad its not the ligaments and tendons

hopefully you'll recover quickly :)

isnt it weird how re-accuring injuries happen. Its never what you would expect. I had a torn back muscle that I kept hurting and every time it would happen from something stupid. One time I just sneezed and was the worse it had every been.

sorry to hear bro and I hope it heals back up stronger and fast.

Wow

:D Lats,

Sorry to hear about the rupture brother... you will heal... damn it. You better.

But you STILL managed to make me LAUGH OUT LOUD!!!

LOL! You should do stand up man... you are hysterical. :)

I hope you heal QUICK...

very sorry to hear of your injury.....i know what it is like my friend .....if you need me ....I am around for you

Sorry to hear about this LATS. And I thought having to take time off for my hernia surgery was bad!

I gotta admit with BBB, you still made me laugh particularly "if i dont get sex i curl up into a fetal position and cry.. i am a very complicated man.. i have issues". Too funny bro.

Hope everything goes well.

INJURIES SUCK ASS!!!!

Just tweeked the low back this week...I am walking like there is a baseball bat shoved up my ass.

hurts to cough, sneeze, and sit.

LATS!!! sorry bro...but I am sure you will make a damn good recovery.

sorry to hear about your troubles. I have a knee issues torn acls and even tore my mencuis after only running 10ft fell flat on my face playing soccer with my girl"s team. End of last year started having trouble with my left hamstring now my doc thinks it"s tore. Crazy thing is I"ve never hurt my leg muscles or knees working out it"s always something unreleated to my legs. My doc told me I"m the healthest person he knows in the worst body!! I think I "m his comic relief.

LATS,

SORRY TO HEAR that, my friend.

Do you have a divot where the tear was?...

You can do bodywork / deep massage as the scar tissue is forming and basically reshape the muscle. You'll have to find a practitioner in your area who knows what he / she is doing. (I'd be happy to help you find someone if you like.)

Has your doc ever assessed you for any imbalances between your quads and hams?

thanks guys for the kind words.. as for the imbalances.. yes.. because of the previous tear, i have a imbalance in the effected leg.. the hams are a little bigger than the healthy leg and the quad, although strength is essentially the same, is a little less dense.. so there is some discrepency.. hey randy, do you think that the dent left from the tear 14 years ago can be reduced with some help?.. i so far see no dent yet in the new tear but, it is still swollen so time will tell.. let me know what ya think.. and yes.. if possible i would like to look into the therapy to get this in better shape..;)

Lats,

make sure you get some Active Release or Rolfing done on that tear. Otherwise once it heals up the scar tissue is connected to some healthy tissue and you end up tearing more tissue in the future in that area that is healthy. Make sure you get all that scar tissue broken down and rid of. That may also help with the apperance(dent) you have also.

LATS,

Yep, I think some heavy duty body work - painful over the course of many months - could improve the previously torn quad. Dunno if there's anyone in your area who does that though... You might try the rolfing organizations (there are two - long story) online to search for a practitioner...

Oh, yes, and generally speaking - for you - therapy is a very good idea... LOL
