Ok last night i saw war of the worlds and thought it was a good movie , but what i dont understand is the ending and why the aliens died? was it from our bacteria on earth ? was it our living oganisms and how could that kill a bucnh of kick ass aliens?

your thoughts plz.

I haven't seen the new movie but in the old one as well as the book the aliens died because they had no natural immunity to diseases native to our planet. This ending seems silly but contamination (from this planet or to this planet) is actually a major concern for NASA when it comes to the exploration of other bodies in the solar system.

Yup. In the book it was the lack of immunity to Earth-based disease that killed 'em off. In fact, the book was, in part, making a political statement about what happened to American Indians when European settlers came to North America. The Indians had no immunity to European diseases and most of the Indian population died rather quickly.

Homer is right... After the first landing on the moon, Aldrin and Armstrong were quarrantined for 2 weeks to ensure they did not contract some "moon disease". And after space shuttle missions the ship is immediately taken into a "clean" zone and disinfected because they found out that there are millions of bacteria that somehow live in space. In small quantities they are harmless within our atmosphere, but better safe than sorry.

Two issues I had:
1. If the aliens had discovered earth before we were here and hid their vehicles underground, then come back millions of years later and attacked us, why do that?
If they were here before us, and wanted the planet, why not just stay back then??
What is the reasoning behind finding a planet you want, then thinking, I'll hide my warcraft underground, and if any lifeforms develop over the next million or two years, we'll come back and battle them for it?

2. When the aliens first come down, and wiped out all electrical circuits, clocks stopped, watches stopped, cars stopped, phones wouldnt work, nothign requiring electricity worked, yet people were still able to stand around gob smacked recording it on their video cameras and film cameras when the first big tripod came out of the ground??

It would seem that if a creature can make a spaceship then hang out for a million years...they could have at least paid attention in first year biology 101 when they covered introduction to micro-organisms.

But hey...its just a movie for our entertainment and it seems it was successful at that.

I'm pretty sure that the tripods came down with the alien invasion in the book. I bet they changed it for the movie just so that one crazy guy could say that the aliens had been planning it for a million years.

yea i was wondering that also, maybe the aliens planted ships on hundreds of planets and earth was the next stop, as far as the bacteria thing i guess it makes sense cause the aliens hevent been here in like a million yrs so they wouldnt know exactly what micro-organisms may exist , maybe the video cams were runned on bateries like the flash ligths.

Watch the origional movie

The new one followed the origional pretty well. It was the common COLD that killed the aliens in the origional. The Aliens are protected by force fields and nothing can get to them. With the exception that in the new flick... they were eating humans and thus ate our diseases also. No natural antibodies form years of evolution?
