What one thing have you learned in your personal experience training that you wish you would have known from the very beginning?

It took me a number of years to learn that simple, intense and heavy did much more for me in getting bigger than a lot sets of everything. KISS for me. Better late than never. :)

Amen to that too. I was always amazed seeing guys training like madmen and then eating then like a chicken
 
probably one of the biggest is make sure your diet and nutrition is perfect before you decide to start any supplementation.

and then make sure you're the best you can be before you go chemically enhanced
 
The biggest thing to me is attitude. Putting what we do in a proper perspective.

ive recently been spending about 10 to 15 minutes doing a kind of "meditation" right before i go into the gym, meditation is the wrong word bc its kind of the opposite, where instead of calming myself down, i try to pump myself up. makes a big difference in my workouts.

also, i agree with brick, keep it simple. i no longer count sets, or reps, or even days between workouts. i just go in pick 3 or 4 compound movements and try to keep my intensity up. another thing is to not put too much thought into how much you weigh, instead focus on how much you lift.

Warm-up and do not hurt yourself. An injury puts you back more than anything imo. It fukkin' sucks. I think everybody starts out knowing this, but they get a little too excited seeing gains, thus they get sloppy with form and develop injuries. Good form is important.

So warming up and not being stupid (using proper lifting form) are my tips:)


If that isn't good enough, then heavy progressive lifting is my tip.

Heavy as possible for reps,
Drop sets,
Rest pause.
Cycle weights like everything else.
Train every other day.
Every 8 weeks no training for a week to 10 days.
Amino's/high protein
And don't listen to what everyone says is the most gear you need, use as much as you need to get results, but only in short 30 day cycles.
 
Don´t overtrain, It´s amazing how little volume you need to grow compared to the 6 day per week 2 hour a day workouts some people do

Exaclty....I finally put on some muscle this offseason (7-9 lbs) by learning that LESS IS MORE. You do not have to kill yourself on every set, for multiple sets to gain.
 
HELL YEA! my workout is as basic as ive ever done and im making awesome gains. Its hard to make yourself think that more isnt better, but once you finally take that plunge, if it works for you then you will know for sure!

Yep if the pinky isnt flared then all muscle gains will stop and youll never put any size on. Ask Dante, he preaches this. haha j/k
 
Slow specific movements with exact proper form. If you follow these ideas, you can use half the weight that you would use if you used jerky, body motion, sloppy form and put on more muscle in a shorter period of time.
